well my first batch was 1M and 4F. My second batch I am not really sure. From what I can tell my ratio is off now. It looks like 5M 6F. The lady at the pet shop didn't pay much attention this time.

Hey man. No it looks like its not coming off very easy. I pulled my filter out and it looks like my white filter is kind of a orange/rust color. My aquarium does also have an odor coming from it.

10 days into cycle and I have film on my air hoses. Is that normal? Also there is a yellow slimy substance that is showing up on the outside of my filter media. When I say outside i mean the part where the water is exiting my filter media. Looks like moss or maybe algae????? Is this normal?

Thanks eco! Can always count on you to give me great advice. The problem with the filter media is that he 100% agrees with you about not getting rid of filter media until it is falling apart. So I doubt he will give me any filter media.

@bstnrdsx - that is crazy! Well, I came home for lunch and tested my ammonia again so I could look at it under natural light. I was not happy with it so I did another 40 to 45% PWC. Now I feel like I have got to the 4ppm. Note to self a cap full of ammonia is WAY to much!!!

Well it looks like I got it to 4ppm. I ask my wife and she also said it looks like 4ppm. Its hard for me to tell really. If I over shoot and am at possibly 6ppm is that detrimental to my cycle? I did put in prime also. Thanks for the reminder. Thanks for all your help to this point!

Well guys put a cap full of ammonia in and got a ammonia reading of 8ppm!!! Soooo did a 30 to 35% water change. Already one rookie mistake!!!
