    LFS Freebies: Bad and Good?

So I purchased a Monti Capricornis from my LFS today and just before I put it in my tank, I noticed a little bubble algae on the underside. I carefully removed it and rinsed the coral. I hope I now won't have a bubble algae explosion in my tank. That was Freebie #1 (Bad). Freebie #2...

    Help with lighting.....

If you are not planning on having any corals, then lighting is not too critical. you really only want something that is asthetically pleasing to you and to support the corraline algae on the liverock. N.O. flourescents won't do the job so you will probably want to get a hood with VHO's or...

    Another Sand Question

Your location says New York. You should be able to find some Old Castle at a local Home Depot. It'll save you a bundle.

Where can I buy a PREMADE, not DIY, upgraded light fixture?

I was in the same boat. Darin from Captivereefs (one of the sponsers here) helped me alot. I paid alot for the fixture but it was worth it.

    Question on Acrylic Tank...

My custom tank was 66 inches wide, 33 inches tall and 20 inches deep with a center overfow. Total volume approx 188 gallons. I didn't mind spending extra because this tank was going into a spot in my living room that I will have for...well, my mortgage is for 25 more years. It fits the spot...

    Question on Acrylic Tank...

I got a custom tank from them, to my specifications, shipped to my house for $1600. It was pricey, but the service was great, and I got a beautiful tank. I probably could have gotten it cheaper, but I got peace of mind dealing with an established and well known company. Good luck with it.

    Holy Mantis, Batman!!!

Although I have no direct evidence in my tank, I have read online and in varoius books that they are very good predators of most invertebrates (snails, hermits, shrimps, etc), and if they get large enough can take out fish. The one in my tank is one of the smaller sized species that gets to 3-4...

    Holy Mantis, Batman!!!

My live rock went in 1 week ago, and today as I was peeking around for my peppermint shrimp I saw one of the eeriest things I have ever seen. A 3 inch Mantis creeping along where my peppermint shrimp was just last night. I was shocked because from reading on this site I didn't think it was...

Things you have wasted money on for you SW tank...

$50 on an external overflow from my LFS, then I decided to upgrade my tank and had it predrilled. $8 for a cheap swing arm hydrometer, then I bought a refractometer. $19 for a cheap air stone driven protein skimmer $60 for a nicer venturi type protein skimmer on ebay, too many adjustments so...
