I agree with Delapool, just replace. Years ago, I stripped 18awg wire, snaked it through tubing, attached random cloth, sponges or cotton and pulled it in and out of tubing to clean it. Its much easier to purchase new.

May try to flip the tank upside down, snake some wax paper under the bottom brace. Apply paint, use the wax paper to work the paint back in forth under the brace. If your brace isn't glued you should be able to get the paint under it without removal. Just a thought.

It may be undersized for 100 gallon community tank. The 304 is an older model, as now fluval is up to series 6 (306). You may want to look into the 406 rated up to 100 gallons. A lot of it depends on population and the number of filter media baskets. I would give it a try since you own it...

I go more towards the top 25% of the tank. if you put it near the bottom make sure it is aimed alittle above the gravel. I also consider the water flow of the entire tank.
