Why he Heck Does My Tank Smell Bad??

We were given a tank for the work place and after a while it had an awful smell, we found the lights and cover were very dirty so cleaned it all thoroughly with water and it solved the problem! I think it may have been the heat making the smell worse!

    Fish id please

Yea true, most if the time they're fine, just get the odd bit of pushing now and again. The parrot fish seems to be the boss of the tank I would say! We rescued the convict recently and so far so good.

Can a tank cycle in a week?

Not sure on tank size, it's my friends tank, I think it's 100 litres, just added fish food for ammonia source. He won't have tested the tap water because he's bringing his water to work for me to test, but I will ask him to bring some in to confirm, thanks

Can a tank cycle in a week?

A friend is setting up another tank in his house, he decided to run his new filter on his old tank for a week and then transfer it into new tank. He also but some decor from old tank into new tank and added some food to the tank. He ran it like this for 5 days. We tested the tank water for first...

    Night light

Yes, good point well made, I always turn the lights off completely but I've not other people around where I live keep a blue light on, but as you say the more natural you keep things the better for the fish.

    Night light

Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not to leave a blue "moonlight" on during the night as opposed to switching all lights off?

    Algae on tank lid

Glad to know it's not a problem really. The main down side is the tank looks dirty when the algae is present because its obviously changing the light but at the end of the day it's easily enough removed during water changes.

    Algae on tank lid

Yes I normally just remove it when I do a water change but was just concerned in could be harmful

    Algae on tank lid

Thanks, common sense really, cutting portions first, over a period of time they won't notice the difference.

    Algae on tank lid

Thank you for your reply, I do 50% water changes weekly already so I will try feeding much less, I normally feed daily so hopefully this will solve the problem. Thanks

    Algae on tank lid

Seem to have an issue with algae growing on the glass, above the water, where the lamp unit sits on.... Is this normal?

    Tiger barbs

I had wondered about that, thanks

    Tiger barbs

Thanks very much, I've got the normal yellow/black type x3. I've had them about 2 years and they've always been fine, I heard they are happier in bigger groups so wanted to up the numbers and was thinking about the other coloured types as options.
