One thing I do to clean under my rocks is get a turkey baster, or i use a nose sucker for babys. shoot the water out from under the rocks and caves and the poop comes flying out, then just vacume it up!
Back on topic, I feed my fish twice a day.
I just did a 70% water change and the only thing I did different was i forgot to use Prime as I was refilling. I let for about 10 after finished, and when i came back, all my fish are laying on the bottom of the tank breathing heavily?????
I quickly added a double dose of Prime, and 10 min...
I think the rule for Mbuna's is 3-4 times a day at 30 sec per shot, that would equal the 2 min may refer to. That's what I've been doing and my water is clear and have had no problems, but then again I've only had my fish for a couple of weeks.
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone here, it's been a excellent source of information and everyone has been very helpful.
I finished cycling my tank after almost 8 weeks and have it stock as of this weekend.
Here is a video, and again, thanks...
My tank finally cycled:dance:
My readings are 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 20 nitrates after the final 95% waterchange.
My concern is that I put some Buffer Max into my tank to raise the PH to correct level for Mbuna's. I followed all the directions about how much to add and after letting in mix...
I'm in the same boat, but I'm on week 7. This morning I put the drops in the test kit for nitrites, and it was blue for the first time. I got really excited, then it quickly turned dark purple.......
I currently have:
60 Gallon tank
2 Marineland 200B Penguin Filters
1 Top Fin 300w heater
It's cycling now, going on week 6  and I plan on adding Mbuna's, about 20 of them. My question is I wanted to get a canister filer, and was looking at either the Fluval 405 or the Fx5. Is the Fx5...
Thanks for all the help, it's funny because you always get conflicting advice from different places. One board said to stop doing the partial water changes, it's disrupting the cycles.
I am going to stop adding ammonia for a couple of days and see if the Nitrites go down some.
Thanks again!
I'm on week 6 and it seems my NitrItes will never go away, here are my reading after doing my 4th 90% water change:
NitrItes: 5.0+ VERY purple
NitrAtes: 20ppm
Ammonia:2.0-3.0ppm
PH:7.8
I have to add ammonia daily to keep it in the 2-4 range, otherwise it goes to 0 in 24 hours. I have my temp...
