    Frustrated, need help

Yeah, a species only tank is what I was thinking for for the damsels. Ive just kinda been getting over my head with this tank and I really should just do something easy until I figure out what I'm doing.

    Frustrated, need help

Yeah, I may go with chromis, they're not very pretty, but you can't beat the price. Now, obviously I know that damsel are aggressive, but how do they behave around each other? What if i were to get 3 damsels?

    Frustrated, need help

For the time being I was thinking about getting 2-4 simple schooling fish, such as clown fish or maybe chromis. Any ideas for cheap schooling fish?

    Frustrated, need help

I've been having problems with my 30 gal salt water tank. I've had quite a few fish deaths since i started it in august. The deaths have been for various reasons, mostly from my own stupidity or lack of research. For example, right now, I have a six-line wrasse that is getting sick and i'm...

This morning the blenny's face is starting to look red....any idea why?

    need some general help

Actually, the wrasse and damsel have kinda been ignoring the blenny. Thats the problem. They just hand around his home and the blenny gets annoyed at that but they don't seem to even notice.

    need some general help

Fot example, like I said, my bicolor blenny has been acting a bit odd. He's swimming around a lot more than usually. The new fish have kinda been taking over his home. And I haven't seen him eat in the last two days. (although he could just be eating when I'm not looking) Basically, I suspect...

    need some general help

it was a dartfish that died. however, I'm pretty sure he died mostly because of recent additions to the tank. he seemed quite frightened of them, and they picked on him some. My tank is a 30 gallon. right now I have a six line wrasse, a striped damsel, and a bicolor blenny....and a bunch of...

    need some general help

So...this question may end up being vague, but my saltwater take has had a few deaths. Its been going for over 2 moths now. However, I kinda feel like I'm doing something wrong. Or missing something. My question i guess is what all should i be doing to maintain a healthy tank? I periodically...

    leaving for a month...

so....here's the problem. I have a 30 gal saltwater tank. I have a dart fish, a blenny and a lionfish that i just got. During this winter, I will be away for about a month. I was planning on getting an automatic feeder..... Naturally, this presents several problems. First off, is there a good...

    Lighting for live rock

ah yes, i should have included that I got about 30 pounds of live rock, but most of it had little to no life on it. So i bought a little more (about 5 pounds or so) that has lots of algae on it, and so I'm planning on the spreading to the other rocks. So I don't need to get some fancy special...

    Lighting for live rock

So I have live rock in my aquarium and I'd like to have decent coralline algae growth, however, I'm not planning on adding coral (at least for no). My fish tank just has a normal 24 inch fluorescent tube. What sort of lighting would you suggest?

fish not finding/eating food on floor

So I added two fish to my first saltwater tank (30 g). I'm using pellets to feed them but they seem to be having a little trouble finding them. They'll see and eat them if they notice the pellets when they are sinking to the bottom, however, once the pellets are on the sandy bottom they ignore...

    First SW tank. 35 gallon

Exactly, that's what I meant. The problem with adding multiple fish is that it creates a large ammonia spike. Even if the tank is cycled, there is not enough bacteria in the system to handle the all the new ammonia. So what I'm wondering is if I can artificial compensate for that spike. If I...

    First SW tank. 35 gallon

well would the method work after the initial cycle?

    First SW tank. 35 gallon

Thanks for the great reply! So, with this method, do I put the shrimp in after the tank has initially cycled with live rock?

    First SW tank. 35 gallon

So I've had a freshwater tank for a little over a year now, and I got a good deal a 30+ tank, so I've decided to go ahead and try salt water. I have all the equipment I need for now (filter, protein skimmer, heater, etc). I'll be getting live rock next week, and I'll let the cycle for a month or...
