I'm not a pro by any means and don't know much about halides and others. From what i read the halides get very hot and you have to cool them and sometims your water.
You can go with par 38 bulbs , just make sure they don't spot light , make sure they spread out well over your tank. If your...

you should just buld your own. 1 cree for every 12-15 inches...
I'd agree if your going to never upgrade your tank. The nice thing about the cree's is if you decide to go bigger /deeper you can .
Otherwise they look okay to me , as long as you can dim them
How would anyone know ? led is such a new tech and the model and abilitys of the led changes with each generation or basicly yearly. Just look at the jump the XM-L are over the previous generations .
The nice thing about the DIY is that you can replace your led's as needed. Just screw them...
I've been reading up on it for the last week.
I think its simple
Right now Cree's put out the most light per voltage. The XP-E is their oldest LED and its a 3watt nothing else on the market currently comes close to that . However Cree has put out the XM-L series which is a leap above the...
they don't have blue ones yet.
I'd say
26 royal blue XP-E
8 cool white XM-L
4 netrual white XM-L
Remember each set of lights requires its own dimmer power supply
I dunno if he can DIY it a 80 g tank done properly needs most likely 50/54 LEDs or less
30RB at $7 each = $210
16CW at $11 = $176
8NW at $11 each = $88
heatsink $50
Dimmers/power supplys $110
Total $634
Now if he wants to save money he can use all the XP-E @ $7 each .
$378
$50
$110...
OCReef 60 Watt CREE Silo High Power Aquarium LED Light Fixture
These are good.
However Cree has new XM-L lights that are more efficent and brighter than the XP-G and XP-E
DIY yourself is def the way to go.
I'd also go XM-L instead of of the XP-G or XP-E
Take a look at this...
I don't have the room for anything bigger and I haven't found a 30g long within driving distance yet. I wont be buying anything till sept 6th at least so I will keep looking.
Yea , I think I can build a nice LED set up for about $150 using cree bulbs for the 30G L .
Also the live rock...

The other question is what power koralia circulation pump should I get. Are two 550GPH good enough . Should I get one more powerful and one less ?
The way I'm figuring is
$70 for the tank
$50...
Thank you.
Can I grab that refugium and just add something like the odyssea ps75 protein skimmer ?
Or perhaps I can simply make my own I guess.
What about the heater. Is that over kill for the tank or will I be fine ?
