    Yellow Tang HLLE?

I use marine snow. (from their ad) MarineSnow Plankton Diet is a first of its kind product that reproduces the special biogenic suspended matter found in natural seawater, including “marine snow” aggregates. A food for filter-feeding marine invertebrates that feed on particulate and dissolved...

    Help with sick Discus

My wife has a 120g freshwater tank with a pair of discus fish. Today when we woke up one of them seems to have lost its sense of balance and is flopping all over the place. The other fish is fine. We also have in this tank about 7 small angle fish and 2 silver dollars. All of them are...

SG and Salinity off the chart

I gotta run.. either way make sure you bring it back to a normal range in increments.. I wouldnt change it more than 2 ppt per 12 hours.. then again.. it really depends on what you have in the tank.. If its just your damsels its up to you :) but i would seriously make sure that hydrometer...

SG and Salinity off the chart

What is the reading? hypo or hyper? Have you tested your other levels? Whats in the tank living? Also is this the only device you have to test the levels? Those are not the greatest for measuring salinity..

    Best Way To Lower Nitrates??

    Best Way To Lower Nitrates??

Eric Borneman wrote a nice little article a while back about the Nitro cycle.. When you get a tank, you start with no populations of anything. You get live rock to form the basis of the biodiversity - and remember that virtually everything is moderated by bacteria and photosynthesis in our...

    Best Way To Lower Nitrates??

Nitrates are only consumed by plants, algae or mechanical device. Nitrites and ammonia are consumed by PODS and other Bio organisms and turned into Nitrates..

    fish compatability question?

Just remember mandarins main source of food is PODS IF your system cant produce enough pods to keep them both fed they could starve. Some people have been successful at feeding dragnets foods like Brine shrimp and cyclopzz (sp) Live Worms, Live Brine and Microfauna

    Best Way To Lower Nitrates??

Live rock does not lower your NO3 or PO4 levels. This can only be done by phycial removal by means of bio filtration via plants or mechanical means such as a reactor or a skimmer. Water changes can reduce the levels but only temporaly. You really need to find the source or cause of your...

    Plants?

Macro are ok in the display tank IF... You dont worry about your herbavore fishes eating them.. I keep mine in the refugium and just harvest off a little every week to feed my tangs... Also you want to make sure you dont use a macro like cularpa. This can go asexual and release NO3...

    Plants?

These both will grow fine in either substrate.. Just make sure they get enough light.. At least some source of 6500k florecent lighting.. I use a 65w 6500k light from American lighting.. its an outdoor spotlight for 30 bucks.. its the 6500k that makes it useful.

    Plants?

Shaving brushes and flatplants are great for the DT. Not as effect of a bio filtration as some of the other algae.. but nice to look at. Also a good food source. My tangs love them.

    Live Rock Question

Thats not a bad skimmer and certainly not under rated for that size aquarium. If you are succesfully removing detris with your water changes and suctioning your subsrate.. etc.. then it is possible to never see dry foam being collected in your skimmer. A good way to test your skimmer (I...
