    freshwater dip question

Well ich is a parasite. I've read both good an bad things about fresh-water dips. They can increase stress due to the salinity change but they can also reduce stress by killing the parasites that are on the fish. I made sure that the ph and temperature were the same as the water that the...

    freshwater dip question

Hi, I have a fish that I think has Ich. I dipped him in freshwater for 3 minutes. Are the whitespots supposed to fall off the fish during the dip? I'm asking because they didn't... I also have been keeping him in a QT with SG at 1.012 and the spots don't fall off -- is it possible that this is...

what do i have to do to be able to get a manderin

Your tank is probably too small to sustain the pod population and a mandarin unless you find some other way to supplement the pods (large fuge for instance). Also you need to make sure that you don't have any other fish that eat pods.

    fish in fuge

Yes there's some live rock and rubble ... ok well I'll keep my eye on him (can't see him most of the time) ... I'll probably try to get him out in a couple of weeks when i cute back the algae.

    fish in fuge

So you think that the lights 24/7 won't cause him too much distress? He won't be all jittery from not getting any sleep? :)

    fish in fuge

One of my fish (mandarin) found his way into my fuge. I've made sure he can't get to the pump but its going to be difficult getting him out so I wanted to wait a while before doing so. My fuge has lights on 24/7. Does anyone know what effect the lighting will have on the fish? I'm assuming...

    LEttuce Nudis

Try aquatic gallery in Milpitas -- I think that I've seen them there before. I'm pretty sure that I haven't seen them anywhere else in SJ/surrounding area and I've been to most of the stores around here. You can always get them online...

Is LR.com the way to go?

Steve, I believe that there were quotes/links in my original posting that you quote above. I'm not a marine researcher and can't validate the statements that wwm makes. I've relied on their advice in the past and can only assume that the people on there know what they're talking about. Zack...

Is LR.com the way to go?

Actually if you look at my response to Zack's article I mentioned that his response was incorrect and that the wetwebmedia articles refer mostly to TBS rock. TBS is aquacultured in much the same way as liverocks.com rock. Zack and I chatted on AIM after I posted my response and he "promised"...

Is LR.com the way to go?

Actually I lied ... one more complaint ... :) There were about 8 brittle stars in my box -- some of them pretty big but they were all placed under the rocks so by the time they got to me they were a mush of legs and star bodies. I'll assume that they all somehow went under the rock themselves...

Is LR.com the way to go?

My two main complaints about LR.com (and Zack never did address these except for trying to sell me more rock): (1) wetwebmedia claims that due to the higher density of aquacultured atlantic rock its not as good for biological filtration. Zack told me that he would look for an answer to this...

    bewildered blenny

I just got one on Tuesday. For the first few days he would mostly hide out but now he seems to swim around more. He doesn't like it when I'm near the tank though -- he'll usually hide between some rocks. This makes it very difficult to feed him. Anyway, from what I've been able to tell...

    Peppermint Shrimp question

I added about 20 to my 100g about 5 months ago and they quickly finished off my aptasias. I didn't see much of them for the first 2 months or so now they come out all the time. When I recently added 2 gobies (about 3" long) to the tank I was actually a little worried because they pestered the...

The bleach will help with biological nasties that might be left over but it won't really help with the copper ... as far as I know anyway.

Do you guys/gals buy fish online?

I've bought stuff from saltwaterfish.com but don't recommend it. They don't have a customer service number and if anything goes wrong you run a high risk of not being able to talk to someone to fix it. I've heard people mention problems with live aquaria as well. I think that the story that I...

    live rocks/sand

Most of the article refers to Tampa Bay Saltwater (tampbaysaltwater.com) which as I understand does pretty much the same thing as liverocks.com. They have aquacultured rock that they mined somewhere else and dropped into the keys/gulf. Anyway I'm by no means an expert in this area -- just...

    fish catching

I went through the same thing last weekend but I only had one to catch. I spent 4 hours on it. At first I tried the bottle & bait trick but he didn't go in the bottle. What I ended up doing is taking a few rocks out. He then went behind these rocks that formed a tunnel with 2 ways out. I...

    live rocks/sand

"but that because of its density it is more limited in potential biological faculties, microfauna, etc" "However, since it like most any Atlantic rock, it is formed by sedimentation (or dense encrusted scleractinians like palmate acroporas)... as such, it is arguably not as biologically diverse...

    live rocks/sand

That's the one thing that I don't like about wetwebmedia ... its sometimes difficult to find exactly what you are looking for. Anyway its repeated over and over in the live rock selection FAQs: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/lrselfaqs.htm
