    Mbuna and driftwood question

I just found out some nice pieces of driftwood that someone was selling off Craigslist and wanted to add them to my 55G mbuna tank but I wanted to get some advice. I have soaked them in hot water as I don't have a pot big enough to boil them - The biggest piece barely fit in a 20G tank. Now I...

    Another stocking thread for Mbuna

Hi everyone, I am sure this has been discussed many times and trust me I have seen thousands of threads on the internet but I wanted to ask a few questions before I get started with my stocking ideas. First, I would like to ask you all where you buy your cichlids. I think a lot of you might buy...

    Seaclear 55G aquisition

That's good to know. I was just scared that since I am using sand, they would move the sand around and the fake plant would then float or something but it does not hurt to give it a try. I definitely think the tank looks bare but I have time to had more stuff before I stock the thank.

    Seaclear 55G aquisition

Thank you Carriwin. I am not currently looking to put any plants in there and the DIY light I have will not work for them (DIY Led). I do would like to put a nice piece of driftwood in there at some point and maybe a "nice" fake plant but I think the cichlids would tear it apart anyway so we...

Can't seem to be able to level my tank - READING does not make sense

You are totally correct. I was completely looking at it the wrong way and the frustration did not help me see it clearly. I did raise the left side today and the tank is not perfectly level. Thanks for the help! Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk

Picture Here is the current state of the build (while cycling). It does look very human made and the left side looks empty for now. Suggestions are welcome :flowers:

Can't seem to be able to level my tank - READING does not make sense

It's been a very long past few weeks and I think my brain was indeed not working properly but after a good weekend of relaxation I was able to get this fixed and the stand shimmed properly this evening.

Can't seem to be able to level my tank - READING does not make sense

Pictures Not sure if this is the best way to share pictures but this is what I came up with while writing this post: Bottom piece of plywood: Top of the stand: Left Side from the Top: Right side from the top: Level sitting on the water:

Can't seem to be able to level my tank - READING does not make sense

Hi everyone, So I got a Seaclear 55G acrylic tank/stand/canopy on craigslist. I noticed that the top of the stand bowed a little and the tank would not make full contact at the end on both side so I decided to put a piece of plywood between the tank and the stand. Now, after 2 weeks of the...

    Seaclear 55G aquisition

1/4" unleveled Well, After a couple weeks, it seems like the carpet padding and uneven concrete floor might have had the best of me. I am seeing a 1/4" difference from the far left to the far right of the tank. I now need to figure out how to shim it (I think I will have to get that piece of...

    DIY LED lighting

Thank you Marine and PB_Smith. I had most of the parts already from a previous project (including the LEDs) so for me it was a no-brainer. I was at first going to run the led strip from front to back and then so the updated version of Joey so I had to give it a try. I am hoping to get the...

    Seaclear 55G aquisition

Thank you Calinban07. I am also very please with the look and can't wait to start cycling it but first I need to find some good rocks to put in as this will be used to hosts mbuna cichlids. I always loved them and that's what I always wanted before going into the saltwater aquariums.

I cut a piece of plywood I had and that seems to have some the trick. I filled up the tank with water so we shall see how it goes.

    DIY LED lighting

I haven't used it yet. The tank I purchased on Craigslist is in my garage for a leak test (even though it's an acrylic tank) and I am waiting on my black PVC to arrive for the spray bar build-out. I have a canopy that will cover the fixture so I am not worried about the look of it but you could...

    DIY LED lighting

Here is a LED light I built (based on Joey from The king of DIY). I used half round PVC gutter, 2x 3/4" PVC end caps, a 3/4" PVC pipe and 2 end caps for the gutter). I already had the LED strip (which it was a little longer though) and the screw and bolts. The interior is covered with reflective...

I was planning on putting some between the stand and the carpet so I'll just cut another piece for the top as well. Thanks!

    Seaclear 55G aquisition

Bent acrylic, top stand Tonight, I decided to rinse my tank and fill it up with water but when I put the tank on the stand, I realized that there was a gap at the end and on both sides. It seems like the acrylic bent slightly (2mm) on each end. I am guessing this will cause so pressure on the...

Returning to the hobby after a few years away

I have posted a pic in the new acquisition forum but here it is for your eyes. This is not a great picture and it was before buffing it out with the Novus (have not taken any other pictures yet)

    Seaclear 55G aquisition

Hi everyone, I just purchased a 55G Seaclear aquarium, stand and canopy about a week ago from Craigslist. The tank was in pretty good shape specially for what I paid for it. So far, I have used my Novus kit to get the tank back into a better state that would hopefully satisfy me (once filled...

Returning to the hobby after a few years away

Hi Everyone, I just wanted to re-introduce myself as I have been out of the hobby and forum for a long time. I started the hobby back in 2011 and I believe I step away in 2013 after moving to a new house. Since them, I have been keeping my eyes out to buy an used acrylic tank but good deals...
