    Creating Columbian/Venezuelan Tank

After thinking about and planning a 40 breeder to breed kribs, I decided that I wan't to go back to breeding rams again. I stopped trying to breed the rams because they were bad parents that always ate the babies after they hatched. I then read an article from an Aquarium Fish International...

A final Plan for my 40breeder, can't wait to set up!

My lfs feeds them flakes and they eat the flakes that are placed in the tank. So I am not sure if I will have that problem. How long should the tank be up and running for before I add oto's? I have been having hit and miss sucess with them. They starved in a 6 month old planted 46 gallon tank, 5...

    Hippo tang question

There is probably a reason why your tangs aren't growing that fast. I am only bringing up the fact that a 75 gallon tank is too small for a blue tang for the tangs long term health. I only suggest the bristletooth tangs for a 75 gallon tank because they stay smaller in size. Also I only suggest...

adding fish at the same time

You are going to want to be sure your tank is well cycled before doing so. Also, you shouldn't have to because ideally you should be using a quaruintine tank to make sure your fish don't have any diseases. If they do and you don't QT them then you just introduced them to your display tank. There...

    Algae Ruled Reef Tank

I don't know if anything does. Don't try emarald crabs, I know for a fact that they won't touch the red buble. Now, I did some more research and found I have byropsis in my tank. And found that there isn't a whole lot that kills the stuff. Seems like only fire and Kent Mg will do the trick...

    Hippo tang question

You will more than likely need to upgrade within the next two years, so start saving for it! BTW if your tang is well fed and kept healthy it will reach 5" quicker than 5 years. Some people have them grow around 1" every two months which seems insane but it does happen. It is a survival...

    Introducing tangs...

You could do 1 at a time, starting with the least aggressive one(kole in your case) then ending with the most aggressive(Powder Blue & Yellow). I would add the powder blue and yellow together last, this is because both have been well known to kill any new additoins to the tank. You aren't going...

    Algae Ruled Reef Tank

Will a tribal blenny eat it? I was going to get a tribal blenny, because it has more color than the lawnmower blenny.

    Algae Ruled Reef Tank

Would a water/vinegar solution be a good thing to rub my tank down with then rinse after it is taken down and emptied?

    Algae Ruled Reef Tank

Do you guys have any suggestions for removing zoanthids and polyps from the rock work? I really don't want them as I have read about them becoming problmes later on when you decide that you don't want them. Again these came with the tank. I was thinking chiselling them off but one of the rocks...

    Algae Ruled Reef Tank

So, I guess I will tear down the tank and get new sand and r/o water. I will scrub the rocks and put them in a bucket with a heater and powers head. My lfs should hold on to my livestock for this. They are very nice and care a lot about how my tank is going. I will ask, but I don't think they...

    Algae Ruled Reef Tank

The previous owner used tap water for the tank, and I had to use tap water some tap water when I got the tank becuase I lost 35-40 gallons of water during transport. I have since done 5 10% water changes with r/o water and actually most of them were more than 10%. I scrubbed one of the rocks to...

    Algae Ruled Reef Tank

So I bought my tank as a complete setup from craigslist. The thing evidently came with several problems, most being minor. The only big issue is algae growing everywhere! The previous owner hid it well, or I am doing something wrong as it has gotten much worse since set up 6 weeks ago. My tank...

    Hippo tang question

Tangs grow very fast, and a 150 gallon 6ft tank is too small for them. They are an active 12" fish. Not only will your tank look small, but he will be cramped. I would no suggest a hippo unless you are going to be getting a tank that is at least 240 gallons and 8ft long. Just my 2 cents.

A final Plan for my 40breeder, can't wait to set up!

So I have had some thoughts on stocking a 40 breeder tank for the past few weeks. My original plan was stocking around 2 breeding pairs of kribs, but I have a bad pair. They spawned last Sunday and they are not guarding any area of the tank, in fact my Chinese Algae Eater turned to the devil...

    Breeding Pairs of Kribensis

The female who kills the males? That sucks, I am so sorry for the loss. I think my male krib is attacking the female now... From breeding rams, I found this usually means the female messed up. My best pair always started fighting when the eggs turned to wigglers. The male was the aggressor, to...

    40 Breeder Planted Tank

Thanks! I noticed that running both bulbs causes an algae problem on my 46 gallon tank. The whole back wall and both sides were caked in brown and green algae and the front was starting to get some as well. It wasn't anything the addition of 2 otos and a chinese algae eater couldn't handle. The...

    40 Breeder Planted Tank

I am setting up a 40 breeder soon, and it will be a planted tank. I have a 46 gallon bow which is meeting wear and tear(silicone seams are losing strength) so I am switching to the 40 breeder. I am going to be using the equipment I have on the 46 gallon on the 40. I have a Emporer 400 filter...

    Breeding Pairs of Kribensis

My lfs, said that they can order 6 kribensis becuase each fish comes in a stated quanity from the wholesaler. I was wondering if when your pair have eggs, do they wander the tank? My female will stay in the pot with the eggs only coming out ocassionally. Now that it is about 3 days from the...

    Breeding Pairs of Kribensis

That works too I guess, I didn't know how big your tank was. I think before my current pair gets added to my tank I am going to get a group in the tank and see who pairs up. I will keep the dominant pair and add my current one. I think I am going to ask if my lfs could do it for me in their...

    Breeding Pairs of Kribensis

That is true, but I don't yet. My female hasn't reached that point, the first post about the pair spawing was simply them doing the last minute preperations. They are actually spawing now, taking turns in and out of the cave, and the male has his reproductive tube visible which is a definant...

    Breeding Pairs of Kribensis

Well, I haven't ever seen wrigglers since the first batch. I read that removing the young before the female is ready to spawn again can lead to trouble between the pair such as the female killing her mate.

    Breeding Pairs of Kribensis

Okay, I said I would keep you posted on the kribs. You can guess by that first sentence that they are indeed starting to spawn. She shook at him once then went into her cave. Now we shall see if the eggs make it past this first stage of life.
