    Schools

Well if u really only keep the schooling fish, it still depends on the species' own size. But for example Neon or Cardinal tetras, I would say 12 - MAYBE 15 if it were just them. I think that having a species only tank would decrease schooling behaviour since there would be no threat or reason...

    Apistogramma Cacatuoides eggs

Sadly enough the female stopped defending that spot the next day, so I'm presuming someone ate them overnight! But my pair is still doing well together, doing the typical mating 'dance', so I'm sure there will be more attempts in the future.

    Apistogramma Cacatuoides eggs

My apistos were really active this morning, but I thought nothing of it. Just now I wanted to do a water change and noticed the female is quite fiercely defending a crevice underneath a piece of driftwood. She is also much thinner and her colouring has changed. I'll let you know if I ever get...

    Keyholes!!!!

Well, I'm under the impression that these fish just adapt allot harder once they are adults, I saw the same thing happen when I moved them to my lfs, 2 weeks later when I came by to pick up my plants they were also like this. How large are they? I'm just asking because their eyes seem pretty...

What do I do with a Pregnant White Cloud?

I wouldn't try to breed them in the same tank as your tetras, It might very well be that once they do spawn, your tetras will swim right behind the female and eat any eggs that fall out. I've bred white clouds in a seperate tank though, no heater in the summer, 3g tank with sponge filter. Only...

    Keyholes!!!!

Finally Jchillin! Congrats! :) Have they coloured up a bit since that pic? Or were they just sleeping when you took that pic? Looks like the left one in this pic is the male? U can tell by the length of the dorsal fin, but you probably know that by now :) Let us know how they are doing!

    Fish for 6 gallon planted

How about......no fish? Just Red cherry shrimp? I heard they breed pretty easily. Would be cool to have a small tank you breed shrimp in IMO. You can sell or trade them easily, everbody likes these shrimp :) Whatever you choose, good luck!

    New apistogramma Cacatuoides pair

I have kept neither rams or kribs, so I couldn't tell you. But I can tell you that Rams are apistos as well.......apistogramma ramirezi. I have read different thing about the cacatuoides on the internet, some say both male and female chase away everything that comes too close to their breeding...

    New apistogramma Cacatuoides pair

They're doing well, establishing their territory. I added a coconut cave for them today, and tonight they are doing the 'mating dance' even more actively. The female surprises me, it chases away my biggest female betta (i have 3 in there with them), which is almost twice her size. I also added...

    New apistogramma Cacatuoides pair

Bought myself some apistos 2 days ago, thought I'd share a pic! I really like them so far, yesterday they were already doing a mating dance, but I'll have to feed them some more frozen foods and high quality flakes before they'll start spawning I think, the female looks to be too small to have...

    loaches vs. snails

That's something you could do, keep a small container somewhere with some gravel and put mts in, they are pretty temperature resilient, although they breed better in higher temps. Just feed them a sinking algae wafer once or twice a week, depending on how much you have.

Can my floor support a 20g?

It's been filled up for 2 days with gravel on the stand now, and it's fine, floor is solid enough, no water movement when I walk past it or anything, not even when I jump up and down right next to it :p Only thing that will add some more weight is a decent piece of driftwood, but I'm pretty sure...

    loaches vs. snails

Yup, 3 loaches whiped out my 200+ mts population in my 30 gal over a period of a few months...

Can my floor support a 20g?

Thanks, I needed the reassurance :) I'm filling it up as we speak. I looked under the carpet tiles in my hall and I have a nice solid concrete floor underneath it, so I'll be fine. I'll post pics once I reainstalled everything, I'm going to change my plants around a bit. My great lfs is holding...

Can my floor support a 20g?

This may seem like a really dumb question, but I just moved, to a third floor appartment, and I don't want to take the risk that the neighbour below me will be flooded. I know the cabinet can support it, it has for 4 years before. I'm not sure my floor is 100% level, but it is 99%, should I put...

Keyhole question and some gratuitous pics

Here ya go, old post of mine how I raised my keyhole eggs to 40-50 babies in a seperate tank, If you have questions, ask away! http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=53273&highlight=keyhole

    Anyone Breed Pearl Gouramis?

Bare bottom is first of all easy to clean, and it's really important to keep your breeding tank quite clean. You just need a filter that's going in a cycled tank, and hang it in your 10 g once it's filled up. If it's running in your 10 g now, just let it sit in a bucket with tank water and...

All the wrong stuff - now trying to fix it....

If you can get some of the doctors filter material that should certainly help to speed up your cycle. I would call around to some lfs' in town to see if they will take some of your fish. I don't think noone will take them just because you didn't buy them there. Maybe propose to donate them for...

Jag laid some eggs. JD is looking pretty suspicious.

So how are the eggs doing now? No idea if they are fertile, but I would like to make a comment. If they are fertile and you can raise the fry, what would you do with them? It's higly unlikely that any lfs would take crossbreeds from a jag and dempsey.

    is this true?

Lol, oto's bothering fish is not true. CAE on the other hand should really be sold with a warning. Mine has too little space to grow (The guy at the lfs told me my tank size was fine, I was a noob back then), and is quite agressive from time to time, chasing my cichlids around the tank...

    Thread / String Algae

Java moss is a good option, you can tie it to the driftwood with a piece of fishing line (just take a bunch and tie it down, if you see the line in the beginning don't worry, it will grow over it). You can also use Anubias Nana Petite if you want something to grow on your driftwood. I cram a...
