    Algae ID

I am running two light fixtures one at 10000k and the other at 6700k. It's a 46Gal bow front so it's pretty tall. Just Iron and excel. Do i spot treat with H202 in the tank or do I pull plants out for that? I will do a large water change and clean the decaying leaves off the java fern.

    Algae ID

Anyone know this algae? And how to combat it? I’ve lower lights down to 6 hours. I’m dosing weekly with iron and excel. I’m doing weekly 30% water changes.

    Improve Canister Filter Flow

I cleaned the impeller no luck. Same flow. Could the media inside the canister slow it down? I have from bottom to top. Sponge pad > ehim filter media > scrubber pads. That’s it.

    Improve Canister Filter Flow

Hoses are clean. And I did spray the sponges out with a sprayer attachment. I’ll clean the impeller and see where that leaves me.

    Improve Canister Filter Flow

Hey guys so I have an ehim 2215 for a heavily planted 46 gal bowfront. Over the last two months it seems that flow has really slowed down. You can't see many particles going into the intake. I put my fingers near the intake and couldn't feel really anything of a pull on the water. The spray bar...

    Getting back into the hobby

Eh. I would prefer not to do that to fish. The ammonia dosing has worked for me in the past. I think the high nitrites is slowing it down. I'll do a large water change today and keep the dosing of ammonia closer to 2ppm.

    Getting back into the hobby

According to the fish less cycle guide that is what was purposed and worked for me in the past. Just wondering why it isn't working now. And yes new as in never on an established tank.

    Getting back into the hobby

Dosing with pure ammonia up to 4ppm for the fish less cycle. Every time the ammonia hits 0 I dose it back up.

    Getting back into the hobby

Ok I've done one yesterday. I've been dosing up to about 4ppm. Is it just converting too fast?

    Getting back into the hobby

Hey guys. Getting back into the hobby after moving. I’m checking my tank right now. I started it the 18th of last month and right now the ammonia is converting however the nitrite is converting very slowly. Nitrates have been at 5.0 to 10.0 for awhile now. I’ve been having to do water changes a...

Switching substrate from gravel to... Opinions?

Pool filter sand is the answer. It's a white color. Easy to clean. Easy to maintain. It's a larger grain so the fish don't kick too much around. I've had PFS in all my tanks and I've never had an issue with gas pockets. It's cheap and available usually at ace hardware.

    Thoughts on substrate?

So you would say ADA soil the entire thing? Or cap it with black sand would be good?

    Thoughts on substrate?

Hey guys. I have a substrate question for you guys. I have been doing some research and I think this is the substrate plan for my new 46 bow front setup. I would like to use some Flourite and cap it off with a black type of sand. I know that the local fish store has some Caribbean black sand...

    Tiger barb swimming weird

Hey all so I have several tiger barbs in my new tank (cycled for 2 months almost). Everything is awesome. I've slowly introduced fish over a two week period. I've lost some tiger barbs (2 exactly). They were all bagged together and one didn't have a mouth when it came out of the bag. It was so...
