    Honey gourami

The only thing is I never kept them with guppy's. I would assume they would be OK, in my tank they only ever chased each other.

    Honey gourami

Hi Honey gourami's do enjoy there own company so a pair at least ,would work best. Yes the more cover they have the more out going they will be. Apart from that they are pretty hardy and very enjoyable fish to keep:)

    Empty tank ?

Hi marines can seem very scary, but like any form of fish keeping,it can be as complicated or simple as you make it, but. You will need certain test kits and a way of measuring salinity, which is the absolute basic to start with. Good luck :)

    Filter

Hi I use fluvals and a eheim filter, the ehiem is awesome and been going for over ten years now! As already said the impellors can need replacing plus the sealer rings. They can usually be ordered easily enough. what is wrong with yours?

    Trigon 190 stocking ideas

Hi I always suggest a look round your local fish shop see what you like the look of, make a note then ask again. Obviously one main area to consider these days is go biotope. Pick a an area of the world then narrow it down to a river or lake and see if you could replicate it in your tank. If you...

    Normal Wood in a fishtank

Hi I have used wood from me local woods a few times, but and its a big but! You really need to know the type of tree it came from. I know silver birch and oak is safe. Also before using give it a good squeeze, if its 'soft' throw it away! My wood got covered in a horrible white slime, but my B/Ns...

Everything Tests 0, 3 year old tank

Hi your welcome. Hopefully things will settle down for you. Plants can consume allot nitrate, but I usually have a small reading in my tanks below 10ppm but like I said I cannot recall the last time I tested:oops: I usually use tests strips and do test before adding any new fish,or if I suspect...

Everything Tests 0, 3 year old tank

Hi interesting story. Now firstly I am not a big believer in testing{:hide:} If your fish are doing OK,and acting normally and feeding. I wouldn't panic, but keep a close eye on them and keep up with your regular water changes. Obviously always wash out bio media in old tank water. Good luck:)

    Cloudy waters

Hi the cloudiness could be a few causes. Firstly take out some water place in a clear glass, if it goes clear then its suspended particles and the filter needs a more finer filter media in such as filter floss. If it remains cloudy then its a bacteria bloom, which can be caused by a few things...

throw away old biological filter media?

Hi Bio media needs replacing periodically but only as and when needed. If its looking well soiled and seems hard to clean then I tend to replace some of the media but not ALL of it! I replace about a third of my bio media about every couple of years.

    What do I do!

Hi they will be OK, in your current set up till you can sort something else out. Just remember as the platies breed and add to your current stock to feed more so you need to keep on top of the tank maintenance. More water changes etc:thumb:

    Newish Tank, Substrate

Hi depends if you have any fish in their or not and are you cycling the tank? I would use a syphon tube to 'suck' out the gravel and replace the water, plus then add some very clean sand' remember to allow for displacement of the new sand so the tank doesn't overflow:)

    Aggressive Molly

Hi molly can be quite feisty especially if kept alone and will try to mate or make friends with other fish in the tank, obviously not all fish appreciate this attention. So best idea is to either add more mollies,or remove the one you have? Also do you know if its a male or female? Males has a...

Four Line Catfish and Black Neon Tetra

Hi I have kept four line cats before and they are reasonably safe with other fish BUT,anything that will fit in their mouth they will try to eat. So unless your other fish are pretty small they should be safe. Feed them some frozen mussel now and again,my cats love that when I give them some!:)

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Hi cleaned the glass, removed yet more duckweed, and some other plants and returned the shrimps which got caught up in the plants! amazing how they get 'tangled' up in the plant!

    Question for possible transition

Hi Anubias should be attached to rocks or wood, although I do have some happily growing in sand! It is a tough plant so should be OK in your sand.:)

Suggestions for prefilters for power filters in sand aquarium

Hi and welcome to AA:thumb: I do not know those type of filters, but as long as the intakes are kept away from the sand then there should be know problem. You could also put a small piece of sponge over the intakes as a precaution, you can find plenty of sponges in the pond section of your local...

    Hardy Plants

Vallis is pretty hardy, but most plants would appreciate some kind of proper plant substrate. You could add java fern which grows attached to wood or rocks similar to your anubius. Or buy them in pots and keep them in there pots, this will help, but not ideal.

    Water change

Hi ten gallon is better than none,if you stock lightly and have plenty of live rock and small fish then this could be sufficient. Plus also feed as little as possible.

    Hello everyone

Hi and welcome to the forum. Marine keeping has come along way in the last few years, plus the equipment is so much better,so you have a real good chance of success. My advice is to take it slow and do plenty of research. Plus use R/O water!:)

    Bullying?

Hi clown loaches prefer to be in larger groups if possible, you could do with at least a couple more. Pakistani loaches are notorious fin nippers, but could also just be after some company? Is he/she doing any damage? Does the clown loach appear to be troubled by the extra attention?
