    Dark Red wire looking algae

Question: I have a unique algae problem I think. I have some dark red wire looking algae growing on my live rock. It started out super small and now is growing faster and faster each day. To combat this I have done WC every other day @ 50% total vol. My HQI is about a year old so my next...

    LED DIY 10G Nano

Well, i guess i am going to have the chance to build my LED light after all. Currently, i have a Sunpac 150w HQI Lighting system that i think fits very well over a plain jane 10G from your local petsmart or what ever LFS you have in your area. With that being said, i don't think i will need to...

Darn man, that sucks. Some times it's too late once you can even see ick. it happens, rub it off and start again. I can't tell you how many fish and coral I killed to get where I am today. People ask me all the time how much money I have spent in my tank, I say enough to buy a small car... And...

The lower Sg will cause them to hang at the bottom and just lay there. They will move around some, feeding with a garlic supplement might be needed. Feed high amino acid food. Keep lighting off or at min when feeding. It's always a long shot with ick if not caught in time. I hope it works out...

Great, only was asking cause if you had to try copper it's 99% impossible to get copper removed from media.

If you started the hypo I would suggest following though with the hypo for 5-7 days then slowly start adding salt to Sg of 1.028. Then see how things look and wait a few days the. Do the FW dip. To much stress right now could just make thing worst. You don't by chance have gravel or sand in your...

Its been awhile since I have had to deal with ick but I believe the 2 common ways to treat are copper and hypo. I have done both. Hypo requires a bit more time, lowering the Sg to a 1.010 and keeping it there for 5-7 weeks. Copper: I going to have to re read my notes lol Then there is another...

    cycle

Keep everything at < 0ppm (less then) once cycle takes place you should never see ammo or nitrites rise unless something is decaying or something is wrong. Pending on what kinda tank you have will determin what level is acceptable for your nitrates. I have seen FO systems with as high as 50 ppms...

    Saltwater change question

All depends on what kinda of tank you have... Reef, Fish only, or Fish only with LR. Unless you have a reef tank you could get by with just tap water and some type of salt mix of ur choice. It's nice to use RO or RODI water but it's not needed. Do your self and bank account a favor if it's not...

    anemones

One question? How mature is your tank? Lighting and feeding is so very important with Anemo's but maturity of your tank is way more important to house an anemo. I see so many people wanting one and I understand why, don't get me wrong, some are pretty, they go great with some clown fish. My...

IMO different types of macro grow under different conditions. Some like actinic others like PC. Flow is also important, my culp loves the 6600k actinic and a nice med flow. I used to use a lower spec of 5500k and low flow and it started to turn green and have long strands. With the new light...

Just another drop in the bucket

Thanks, I do bi-monthly scrapings on the side of the tank walls with a razor blade and weekly maintenance with my scrubber on the left. I have a small filter in there right now that I use for a few days after a WC to gather anything that may be floating around, then I remove. No skimmer due to...

It's a bit bare at the moment. I don't keep much in the tank. The LR you see I just added about a month ago. I took out all the rubble and smaller rocks and went for the cleaner look.

O... Careful on the CUC... If your not careful it can spue it's guts if it feels threatened by a hermit or em. crab. They have been known to nuke entire tanks... Not trying to deter you from your ideas just be careful. IMO... Weekly 50% water changes and nice clean up crew will do you just...

Those crab are nasty little buggers... They work but keep an eye on your hermits and snails. Also they are known to take out sleeping fish and some types of corals. As for high lighting and high flow corals? Most SPS require a ton of flow and tons of light. Check out plating corals aswell...

As long as you do your research on the corals and the placement they need you will do just fine I am sure. I had a 75g long once and had Maxi jet 1200s on each side as well as a mag drive 9.5 driving my sump and I still seen some dead spots. Thats until I drilled my tank and added different...
