I wouldn't mess with ph either. For comparison purposes ph to fish is like humidity to humans. The fish can adjust and as long as everything is stable they will be fine.

I haven't seen this before and can't help with diagnosis, however, I do know that water changes do a lot for a tank. I would recommend you do a 50% water change, and then do another 50% water change back to back. And continue with daily water changes. Maybe try turning up the heat a little bit...

Hard to tell from the pics really but it appears she is hanging out by the heater which is a sign that she is soon going to birth.

I have ramshorns and assassin snails, once the assassin is done the empty shell usually makes it way to my intake, I probably have like 10-15 stuck in my intake at any given time...are you sure they are not getting eaten by a fish in your tank? And it's not just the empty shells?

Mine seem to be fine, not stressed, good color, good appetite. They don't really" school" I often see 3 or 4 glow lights chilling with a couple of neons and the other neons are off exploring by them selves or vise versa. I like the color mixtures in my tank :-)

I have 12 and I only feed 17 - 20 pellets per day once a day. I feel like if I'm not going to skip a day I can feed less for everyday...I have been doing it this way for almost a year and none of my cichlids look sick or hungry

Definitely go bigger! I was in the same position almost a year ago and I am so glad I got the 75 over the 55(thanks to the advice from people here!) I now want to go bigger! But 75 is good for me ATM, if you have the space and money for the 70, I'd go for it!
