I have those white things all over the back of my tank too. Dunno what they are either. Are they curled like a snail shell? Mine is, nothing is seemed to be hurt by them so far.

Sorry got busy at work, yes it is. I have around 4+ watts per gallon with the new stock bulbs that I just replaced. It has done very well in there.

Ok Joy, Last night I already had 1.5 gal made, to that I added 2 more gallons of RO/DI water and a cup of fluffed up salt. Will let you know what happened this evening. Thanks for the help :)

That is what I have been doing... just wondering if I was the only one having this problem.

I have mixed up 4gal of saltwater twice now. I made it according to the directions of 1/2 cup to a gal of RO/DI water and both times it can out at 1.033 @ 78deg. According to the instructions it says it should come out to 1.021. I am adjusting it to 1.025 but am I doing something wrong?

What brand of test kits does everyone use? And why? I have a API saltwater master and was told by a tank maintainance guy that he sometimes gets a false reading from the API nitrate kit. I have some corals also and what other kits do I need to test for? KH, Phos and Cal? Any info is appreciated...

Get a piece of styrofoam and put it between the screw heads and your sump. Sounds like it would work to me... dunno (shrug)

Well, back for vacation and my wife did great on handling the tank duties. Just gonna sit back and do weekly water changes and watch the tank grow.... I did replace the lights after I got back, really couldnt tell how bad they were until I put the new bulbs in, amazing difference.

Also, I am going on vacation tomorrow for 2 weeks. My wife will be feeding the fish every other day. What will I need to do in the way of water changes to catch up when I get back. Or will it be ok to go 2 weeks just this one time w/o a water change?
