In fact aluminium ''rusts'' almost instanttaneously. In contact with oxygen, air or water, it forms an oxide layer that has excatly the same dimensions as the base metal, forms solid crystaline structures and adheres well to the base metal. It also protects the aluminium from further corrosion...
I'm guessing the DI resin is exhausted. Non rechargeable DI resin units are what they call mixed bed resins. They have an anion (negative) resin and a cation (positive) resin. The basic idea is that the resin exchanges an OH- ion for any negative ion that goes through such as Cl-, F- and a H+...
Even since last night I've noticed a change. I was gone all day today and just got back a few minutes ago. The light was off again and I just turned it back on to check out the water and there is an appreciable difference already. Considering the greenish tint the water had, I'm really...
Hi again,
I ran some tests and here are the results;
Ammonia = 0, nitrite = 0, nitrates are less than 10, PH was 8.1 and I've added a little buffer to bring it back uo a bit. Salinity is 1.024 and temp is still 76. I've been leaving the lights out all day aside for a ten minute period for...
I'll post some pics tonight and in the meantime here is my description of my setup.
I bought this setup second hand and it was about 3 months old. 52 gal tank with crushed coral sand base.
About 40 or 50 pounds LR but I havent's weighed it myself. Double fluorescent lighting, one blue...
I've been meaning to run some tests but haven't. I spent the free time I had doing a water change, but I will tonight and post tomorow.
What's an algae bloom, what does it look like and what causes it?
Oh, and how do you get rid of it?
Robert
Ok. I didn't rinse since the charcoal was taken out of the top part of a 100 pound bag so was basically dustless. And the extra clousiness only appeared two days later and is not greyish. It more greenish white than grey.
Robert
No I didn't rinse it. Aside from removing the dust, what else is rinsing supposed to do for you?
Although the carbon didn't actually do anything, the problem only got worse two days later. And when I restarted my Eheim filter after adding the carbon, no dust came out.
I'll tale a picture...
Hi,
I posted last week about my water being cloudy. I did a 20% water change using DI water. The DI reads 0 on a conductivity meter. I've cut down on feedings making sure all the food I give my clownfish is taken before adding anymore. I tried adding a cup of activated carbon and doing...
Not yet. But I will very likely load up my eheim filter (mostly empty now) tonight to give it a try. I just read in the article section that GAC is a good substitute to protein skimming, at least for organics removal.
And I don't have a phosphates test kit.
Robert
DI. I have a NM-60 cartridge, the grade used to threat coolant water in nuclear reactors. No RO so their may be some organics but the water is basically ion free when it gets out. Plus this tanks has been running clear for a few months and this has only appeared recently so I doubt the input...
Cool. I'll give it until this weekend and look into other options if it doesn't clear up.
I'm also ready to do another 20% water change tonight so we'll see what that does.
Thanks a bunch guys.
Robert
I was hoping it was that and would indeed clear up but after one week, nothing has changed.
I saw a product at the LFS that apparently digests excess organic material to clear up cloudy water in salt or fresh water aquariums.
I'm guessing it's just a digestive enzyme. Good idea, bad idea?
Robert
As of last night, still no change and I didn't have any time to test the water.
I did take the time to do a head count and everyone is accounted for. I only have one snail, a very large one, and it's still there. The only thing I can't count are the blue legged crabs because they're are at...
Last I checked, ammonia and nitrites = 0, nitrates = 10, density was about 1.245, temp was 76°F.
So far the fish seem happy. I really don't know what is going on but I will run some new tests tonight.
Is this the result of not running a protein skimmer?
Robert
Good day again,
I have a 52G FOWLR, I have an eheim 2717 mostly empty with some stones that came with it. I'm moving about 600 GPH overall. I have maybe 40 lbs live rock. The tank also has one algae blenny, one clown, four different crabs and a dozen blue legged crabs and a snail for...
Update,
I re-tried the marine flakes last night. I guess that after several weeks of frozen shirmp, the marine flakes were suddenly a welcome change and she accepted them gladly.
So from now on I'll alternate between the shrimp and the flakes and some occasionnal homemade mini-meals.
Thanks...
Hi,
I've had my clownfish (false) for about 6 weeks now. She's doing great and seems very happy and healthy.
However I can't help wondering if feeding her frozen shrimp once a day is enough. Should I be alternating or supplementing with something else?
Robert
I can't help thinking there's some deep genetics involved (afterall they're immune to the sting
Hmmm, from what I understand, they are not actually imune to the sting and can in fact be killed by an anemone. I believe the trick they use is to slowly blend into the anemone and incorporate the...
Hmm, haven't seen any pods or worms and I have been keeping an eye out for them. As for the rest, macro algae, coraline, any idea where I can find an image to see what it's supposed to look like?
