    New tank buy list

"Prime" to condition the tank water is often recommended for fresh water tanks.

    Bottom Feeder?

I really like ghost shrimp. With or without cories, my 10-gallon stays spotless. Ghost shrimp will even clean up any fish waste they find. The sand substrate helps, too -- no crevices for food and waste to drift into.

    20 gallon community

I only have a 10-gallon, so I wanted the opportunity to play, too. Then, after making my selections, I checked what everyone else had suggested and mine matched Madasafish's :? I guess I didn't get here quick enough. So, I'll just "second" that person's recommendations.

What kind of fish to put in 5 gal freshwater tank?

Welcome to your new home, Bettamaxx! You have such smart parents. I thought the "another betta" suggestions were the best listed here for a 5-gallon tank. Here's to a long, happy, healthy life!

    Advice

After a two-week quarantine and segregating our female betta, three bronze cories were added to the 10-gallon tank. The betta was reintroduced to the tank several hours later. Within minutes she had one cory cornered and bit off one of its feelers. She was banished from the tank immediately...

What should I do with my 10g?

I replaced the male betta in our 10-gallon tank with a female. Without all that extra finnage to lug around, she's far more active. I also have an African Dwarf Frog and some ghost shrimp. The ghost shrimp take their tank maintenance job very seriously and can usually be found sifting through...

sand oppinion for my 29 gallon tank

Thanks! I'll give it another go. It sounds so simple and looks so simple in the instructions. We would try over and over. Sometimes it worked for us, but usually not. There for a while we were using an ear syringe to start it. The tank is quite small, only 10-gallons.

sand oppinion for my 29 gallon tank

I have a siphon but find it cumbersome to use, even after several weeks of practice. I finally gave up and just went back to using a turkey baster.

my betta's new tank mate - what to feed?

First I place the frozen blood worms in a small cup of tank water and swirl them. That thaws them almost instantly. I pick out a nice fat juicy one, with an eye dropper. Then I dangle the eye dropper just over the ADFs nose and release the blood worm. Sometimes she even holds the eye dropper...

sand oppinion for my 29 gallon tank

The only thing I DON'T like about Tahitian Moon sand is that it's so dark I can't find the waste to remove it with a turkey baster. I unplug the HOB several times a week and blow the sand around, then go after whatever waste I see drifting in the tank. Also added some ghost shrimp as a clean...

my betta's new tank mate - what to feed?

I have several ghost shrimp and feed them whatever I'm feeding the Betta and African Dwarf Frog (ADF), usually either frozen/thawed blood worms or adult brine shrimp. But, I also use a tank divider to segregate the Betta so the ghost shrimp and ADF can dine in peace. To ensure everyone gets...

    Betta and ADF ?

We added several ghost shrimp to our 10-gallon tank three days ago. The smallest one was eaten before the end of day one. A second disappeared before the start of day two. The female Betta and her ADF sidekick spent yesterday stalking and chasing the remaining six. Hopefully, today will be...

    Heater: Horizontal or vertical?

Horizontal, under the HOB intake tube, to distribute the warmed water through the tank. Because it's positioned about an inch above the sand substrate, I don't remove it for water changes. The frog likes to lay under it during the cooler months.
