I had battled GHA for about 6 months. Felt like I had tried just about everything, but this is what finally worked for me: Added another skimmer, put some phosphate removing media in my sump. Continued to remove manually, and in about 6 weeks, I was hair free!! Good luck, I know how frustrating...

try a sand sifting star. even with all my algae problems, the star keeps the sand spottless. I also have an engineer goby, who takes care of one side with his tunnels.

broke down and bought new bulbs. noticed a big difference, should have done it sooner. Algae seems to be under control, but i think this may be due to increased skimming. I THINK THAT I HAVE WON!!! :mrgreen:

if the algae is already present, and i removed the cause, would the lights allow the algae to thrive?

more specifically, could waining bulbs be the cause of the hair algae?

i have been battling green algae for a while now. got some good advice here, but nothing seems to work. is anyone familiar with current orbit pc's. i have had this fixture for at least 8-9 month.......is it time for new bulbs....is there any way to tell?? tia

have been battling hair algae for some time now..Tried everything! reduced feeding, Increased skimming, using ro/di water, frequent water changes, reduced photo period, addition of larger clean up crew(including lawnmower blenny that doesn't mow :? ) physically removed almost all of the algae...

even if there is already empty shells for them to use? thanks

has anyone heard of hermits killing snails? I think I may have a killer hermit on my hands 8O

tried all of the above. using ro/di water, used a phosphate spounge. Cut back on photoperiod, added 10 more turbos.feeding DT's thrice a month now. NO CHANGE! don't know what else to do. any other suggestions. do i have to physically remove all the algae in order to get rid of it? please help...

72 gal tank, skimmer in use, about 1/2cup a week. clean up crew....six turbos, 5 hermits 1 sifter star. water used for top off's tested 0 for phosphates as well.
