I posted without seeing page 2. Sorry to have confused. It was me being the confused one. Nothing new. lol
If you dont want loaches or catfish maybe a pair of Kribensis will fill the bill. I have had them in a community tank with no problems. Just give them a cave (or small pot) to hide in.
You might want to think about a bottom dweller to round out the tank. The 37gl being a tall tank you need to think about if all areas will be used. Different fish in different layers not all crowded in the middle section.
gourami's stay in the top third of the tank
bloodfins mostly in the middle...
My 2 A/C 50's came with 2 tubes each. I used all 4 on 1 of the filters and pieced together the inlet tube for the other with old filter parts I never threw away.
I have a tall tank so its important to get the water up to the surface.
When I had a power filter that used cartridges I did this. Here are images. Hope the links work.
Modified filter - I was asked to take a pic so here it is. Hope it is helpfull. Marineland Eclipse H filter. Aquarium Advice Gallery
And used a block of aquaclear sponge on the intake as a pre...
The Ammonia eating bacteria colony is growing and eating at a faster pace every day. Once they have turned enough ammonia to nitrites the second type of bacteria starts to colonize. The bad news is they take twice as long to get established. So your looking at 2 to 3 weeks more of close...
Sounds like everyone has helped you get a handle on things. I would just add that you test the tap water for nitrates. It seems to early for 10 to 20ppm levels unless its coming from the tap.
With ammonia going down nitrites will be going up soon. Check if all tankmates can tolerate salt. If so...
Better living thru science. I just hope this kind od tinkering helps science learn and maybe save lives some day.
My wife wants some of these Glofish. Will the different color versions school together? She wants 2 of each of the 4 color varietys.
Once the filter is running you can place it up above. If you loose power it will loose prime up there and if you are not around burn up the pump when power is restored.
If tested nitrate level is 20ppm or less everything is ok. If between 20 and 40 ppm it is getting high but not dangerous. Do 20% water changes daily till it is down to 20ppm. If over 40ppm then do a 50% water change then 20% a day till at a safe level. If high or not coming down test the tap...
I second using the AC sponge. Its coarse larger cell holes don't restrict flow as much. You can cut 2 or three inlet tube filters with one block of it.
But you can't go wrong with what you ordered either. Its all good.
I just filled my 37gl again after a break from the hobby the last few years. I have a bucket that has gl measurement marks for 1 and 2 gl. I did it myself so its fairly accurate. So I filled the tank 2gl at a time.
To my surprise at 27gl it was at the bottom of the plastic frame and full. I...
It seems it was 2004 the last time I posted here. I think it was 2006 when I broke down the tank. Its been sitting in the garage all this time.
I'm thinking about putting it back in operation. I have everything I need except filters. The 37gl is a tall tank so I need lots of surface agitation...
As long as it isnt the nasty slimy bluegreen or brown algae I wouldnt worry about it to much.
A little healthy green algae gives the fish something to snack on once in awhile. In the wild the fish would have algae in its surroundings. A little bit gives the tank a more natural look.
Sounds like the Cyanobacteria to me too. I just finished a battle with this stuff that lasted 6 months.
The guy at the lfs sold me a chemical called CHEMI-CLEAN made by Boyd Enterprises INC. It is sold for salt water tanks but works just as well in freshwater.
It took 4 treatments (one...
Mine spawned in about a weeks time of putting them together. Got them a week apart. As long as they find a good place to nest the eggs they will likely do the deed in a matter of days.
