An interesting challenge for you, but diversity is the key, there really isn't any one cleaner that will do it all. The more the merrier.

I have an onion plant in my cichlid tank with actinic lighting and I would not say that it is a problem at all. It is thriving and happy. I am pruning it regularly, and it looks beautiful.

Heres mine, this colony has doubled every month, and I have frags of it all over the tank now. It finally has started growing up the glass, something I've envied on other tanks for years. This is slowly becoming one of my favorites.

The flow thing is a consideration, but it really does depend on the fuge size. 500 gph going through a 20 gallon fuge is alot different than 500 gph through a 5 gallon fuge. With a 10 gallon only electrikat is probably right, let half go to the fuge and the other half go straight to the sump and...

Sounds like you got a steal, can't wait to see some pics. Definitely get those scissors out, once that xenia takes hold it will grow everywhere, mines creeping up the glass and looks like it wants to grow right out of the tank.

Looks like your drawing is right on, sumps are really pretty simple. It's the DIY overflow that will drive you crazy if your going along those lines.
