    Well, I went ahead with the X3. Having used Eheims in the past, I've got to say I am (so far) much more impressed with the X3. The assembly instructions were pretty straight forward. The fact you can add an attachment on the spraybar to adjust flow is awesome (particularly for feeding times)...

    Brown Algae :(

    One other suggestion aside from alge eaters. I found that a great way to get the alge off rocks with crevices is to use a medium or hard tooth brush - it'll clean those larger rocks, lift tubes, pumps clean and then the diatom filter will clear it out....Just an idea.

    what are you using the HOB for? is it for additional bacteria media or for aeration or both?

    Thanks. :D Seems like a lot of people like the increased size of the containers in the Filstar line. Haven't heard anything about the life expectancy of the Filstars. The only reason I would be interested in a HOB would be for aeration unless I'm missing some other benefit. I'm curious to...
