    NEW Bullish 'Betta' Behaviour?

Hmmmm, I had no idea or knowledge that Gourami's and Betta's where from the same genus. Can't say that I have ever heard this anywhere before now. Do you have any links I can read-up on regarding this please? However, I can accept that the Betta now maybe feeling threatend since the addition...

    NEW Bullish 'Betta' Behaviour?

Hi all At the end of Dec I stocked my newly 'fishless-cycled' 60L tank with the following stock: x1 Male Betta x2 Plattys (1 male, 1 female) x4 Neon Tetras x2 Kuhli Loach Everything looked fine and all the fish appeared to be co-habiting well. Apart from the very occasional spat of...

Ok, I have just redosed Ammo upto approx 2.0 again. Providing the levels of both Ammo & NitrIte are at 0.0 on Sat morning I plan to do the 100% WC in the hope of adding fish Sat PM or Sunday. (As long as the NitrAtes are lower than 40ppm ofcourse).

As is feel I'm almost ready to add fish any day now, (possibly this coming Saturday :brows:) should I now add any more Ammo or could I risk leaving things as they are until then? Also, would you advise another WC of say 50% just to lower the NitrAtes some more? Look forward to your comments.

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

I assume you'll advise I do another WC now? Maybe only 50% to help drop the NitrAtes even lower? (Although its good to see the PH is back to 7.6 already) I also assume that a further WC will help bring those NitrItes down to 0.0. However, I do understand that it is the filter itself that...

DAY 45 Did an 80% WC then redosed AMMO to approx 2.0. I also dropped the thermostat on the heater to approx 24oc in anticipation of being 'fish ready'? - No readings taken today. DAY 46 Temp: 24o -- Ammo: 0.25 -- Nitrite: 2.0 -- Nitrate: 40+ -- PH: 7.6 - No AMMO added due to residues still...

Ok.. what extent of WC do you feel I should do? I'll do it tomorrow and redose ammo, like you advise. Thanks again for all your help :thumb:

I guess all the signs now indicate that a WC would be really useful now its SO close to being completed? Am I right in thinking a WC will help raise the PH again and lower both KH & GH down to a preferable lower levels? Not to mention bring down the NitrAtes which are now really high. Any...

Have to admit I really had hoped I'd reached the time when I could get 0.0 readings in both Ammo AND Nitrites in 24 hours after getting to DAY 38's results, but I'm now puzzled as to why Nitrites have risen again to 2.0, espcially as AMMO falls back to 0.0 in 24 hrs after being redosed to approx...

At last check (4 days ago) Nitrates had risen to 40. The highest they have been so far, so somthing MUST be happening then.

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

Yeah, it does start to go purple right at the bottom even before I shake to tube. Ok, if PH shows no major drop or extreme rise tomorrow I'll do another water change. I really wish Nitrites would have started to show a drop on their own by now though. (even a very slight one?). Given the...

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

Hi all Yeah, just reading my last post back again, I realise I maybe should have phrased it this way: " So, whilst I wait and hope for the Nitrites to eventually drop to the 0.0 level I 'could' be helping the cycle along by trying to maintain a Nitrite level which does not stay over 5.0 for...

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

Yeah.... I will almost certainly redose ammo back up tomoz (pending it not risen by itself overnight for some obscure reason!). So.. what I am now looking to do is try to and 'forceibly' maintain a Nitrite level under 5.0ppm (by doing a WC if it gets stuck higher for more than a few days) or...

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

Ok.. as its now gone 11pm here (UK), I'll wait until tomorrow leaving things as they are. I will take all the readings tomoz (incl. Nitrates too) and will then redose Amm back upto 4ppm as you've advised and explained perfectly. Cheers! :thumb:

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

Ok... much as I completely trust your advice (and god knows im greatful), can I just ask: If I dose Ammo back up again so soon (whilst it's still quite high) wont I be running the risk of building the Nitrites WAY back up over the 5.0 level again? Thus overwhelming the whole system causing the...

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

Great. Ok.. I'll actually pour some water now and leave it standing for approx 24 hours or so (stirring occasionally) and test the PH tomoz. At the same time I'll also run some more water and test: amm/nitrites/nitrates (from the tap). I'll post ALL the results about this time tomorrow...

A newbie 60L 'FISHLESS CYCLE LOG'

Ok.. but before I check, does it make any difference if I just run the tap and then take the readings or should I allow the water to stand in a cup/glass for any length of time before I record the readings? (I just want to do it right you see.) Thanks for your help here. :brows:

DAY 24 after following advice to do a large water change to reduce high Nitrites, I have done that and replaced with dechlorinated water. After dosing ammo again then waiting an hour or so to allow the tank to settle etc, here are the readings: Temp: 30c | Ammo: 4.0 | Nitrite: 0.5 | PH: 8.2...
