    Kribs...after the lovin'

Typical male behavior across the board ;) I've watched the 6 RNTs down 40 guppy fry in seconds. That's what made me think of the possibility. But with the Kribs parenting/defending, I think you are right...Unlikely. Up until this past week there was a balance and I enjoyed watching the...

    Kribs...after the lovin'

I have a pair of Kribs that had a small batch of babys (12). Or they had more which were picked off by my Rummy Nose Tetras. Now at 2-3 months post spawn, the male is big, strong and colorful. He has beaten the female to a dull grey, frayed-fin mess. She used to be the bigger/the aggressor...

    Overcrowded?

I'm new at this but I'd bet the cory barbel loss is from fungus and not sharp objects. I just went through a similar scenario: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/f17/ooooh-nooo-194377.html

    Ooooh Nooo!

Update 1 wk into 86F and salty: No deaths, no fungus or spots visible. All the remaining fish are healthy, eating, and showing normal behavior. The plants did take hit though. I didn't have time to remove them. So, I don't know if it was the medicine+low temp, or the salt+high temp, or...

    Ooooh Nooo!

I did the fungus med and dropped the temp. I added 1/2 tablespoon/gal kosher salt. Now I've crept the temp back up to 86. Things may have stabilized...I hope. I got a credit from the LFS after explaining what happened. Very cool. I noticed the tank that was previously full of RNTs, had...

    Ooooh Nooo!

I found/treated with Tetra Fungus Guard. Directions: Apply. Apply again in 4 days if needed. Due to schedule, I would not be able to follow dosing instructions w/ the other meds I found. Active ingredients: Nitrofurazone, furazolidone, potassium dichromate. It makes the water look...

    Ooooh Nooo!

Can anyone recommend a specific retail antibiotic brand? I'm nearest to a Petco/mart. I'm guessing that with this plan I will lower to 70-75F? Do a 75% PWC to get the Quick Cure out, add antibiotic and cross fingers...correct? After the antiboitic treatment period, bump slowly up to 86F for 2...

    Ooooh Nooo!

I can see ich on the rummys so I think I will keep going w/ ich treatment. What antibiotics? Any one know a U.S. brand name for a newbie? Dose whole tank? I assume If I dose whole tank, will kill the filter bacteria? Every answer seems to generate more questions...sorry.

    Ooooh Nooo!

I'm in the US Mumma. You helped me last time, when I'd first started the tank. You nailed it then! I'm pretty certain it was ich that time. I was unable to see it with natural lighting only. Florescent lighting helps illuminate those nasties. Increased temp for 2 wks cured all the fish. The...

    What has Big Momma got?

Update- Dr. Fishkiller in the house. Internet trained and certified. Another punt: Partially squished her with the net while attempting to catch her. Hydrogen peroxided the white area w/ a q-tip. Quarantined in her with salt and Quick Cure. Any other suggestions? Thanks all!

    Yet another Plea For Help

Update: My tank is back at 76F after 2 wks of poaching. The shrimp look really red. The guppies are STILL rubbing on gravel. No spots ever visible on any fish. I guess ich is not it. There is now a visible whitish patch on the big female. See pictures...

    What has Big Momma got?

...besides babies. Whitish area midway between eye and dorsal. See attached photos. pH 8.2 NH3/NH4+0 ppm NO2- 0 ppm NO3- 0 to 5.0 ppm 37 gal. New tank. Fish-in cycle w/ lots of dirty filter media from another tank stuck in my filter. Water has been stable for a month. Lots of dechlorinated...

I had a pair of convicts years ago. Neat fish. They're tough as nails and breed like rats.

Curious. Did you prep/treat your local pond plants for your tank? If so, how? Thanks

Possibly red gills on the guppies. The problem is they are red guppies so they have fairly translucent gill plates as well red markings. The WCMM and cory are too small to see. white or brown poo. I think I'm going to leave the temp up 'til two weeks pass. I've already swam more than half...

    Yet another Plea For Help

Thanks again. I did leave a glass of tap water out for 24 hrs. Still lots of rubbing, listlessness, now some floating on surface and gulping. Might not have much to deal with in another 5 days. Just flushed one. Head scratcher. So if it's not ich, anyone have a plan B? I'm tempted to...

    Yet another Plea For Help

From the photos, I agree, but in person, it looks like 8.2. Not the best pics. I do understand that those overall water parameters are good and that my tank is cycled for the current volume of waste load. My water is clear, well oxygenated, dechlorinated, and the tank is heavily planted with...

results API results after a 50% water change: pH test tube: darker blue than end of scale 7.6 HIGH RANGE pH test tube: my best guess 8.2 See pictures I wrote too soon about rubbing/ flashing on gravel and rocks. I don't know if it's in the water. I've been treating the whole volume of water...

    Yet another Plea For Help

I'm home now with more questions. The water is crystal clear with no algae growth. API test results: pH-dark blue. Darker blue than any of the color chart squares. So I did the High rang pH test HIGH RANGE pH purple but not matching any of the color squares.- most like 8.2 or 8.4. Ammonia...

Thanks again all. I punted and did the big water change this AM. Doing incrimental temp increases via the phone. Jacked up the flow on my filter pump and left the water level 2" low to areate. Light feed every othe day. Unable to do anymore water changes for a bit. I agree that that...
