Feeding my fish while I'm on vacation

I am going to be at the ocean. We wont be here for Sat. and Sun. and part of Mon. We have 1 blue damsel, 1 4 striped damsel, 1 yellow coris wrasse, 1 yellow tang, 2 percula clowns, 2 green chromis, and 1 coral beauty angelfish. I wasn't sure if there was something we could put in the tank that...

I think I have an anemone in the tank....

If it has taken 10 months for this anemone to come out, is there a strong possibility that there are several more under the rock? This one I think I could physically remove without tearing any of its tentacles off, since it is attached to a seashell instead of a piece of live rock. It was...

I think I have an anemone in the tank....

What is an aptasia? Is it good or bad for my tank?? It is kind of hard to see the entire thing, since is is behind the shell, but there isn't really much more to it than the small tentacles. The body is very small. I'm just curious as to why I am just seeing it now, when I have had the same...

    Sea Anemones

How long does it take for a sea anemone to reach full size? I think I may have one in my tank. It had to have somehow survived on my live rock, even though I have had the same live rock in my tank for about 9 or 10 months now, and have never seen it until now in all that time. It is very...

I think I have an anemone in the tank....

Here is a pic This is the best shot I could get of it. It is right behind the sea shell (The pinkish "tentacles") What do you think it is? The "body" of it is very small. It seems to be mostly just tentacles. I read a little about a worm called a "spaghetti worm" but this creature hasn't...

I think I have an anemone in the tank....

We have had our tank for about 10 months. We have since then aquired 2 percula clowns, 2 blue yellow tailed damsels (one has died - it jumped out the tank from being bullied by the other damsel), a yellow tang, a green chromis, a yellow coris wrasse, a 4 striped damsel, and since yesterday, a...

    Emerald crab molting??

I just saw one of my emerald crabs sitting on a piece of live rock and it wasn't moving, so I tried to get it out of the tank. I'm pretty sure it's a dead crab, but I read about crabs molting, and don't know if that is what this is. The body seems pretty solid, but what does a molted emerald...

    My poor yellow tang...

How would I get a "refugium with non caulerpa macro algaes"? I honestly don't think we can fit much more live rock in the tank. You wouldn't see the bottom of the tank if we put anything else in there. I have been putting in the buffer, but the tang , once again, is turning red again. The...

    My poor yellow tang...

no they have not been quarantined. we just sat their bags in the water a while and then put them in. if i did the alkalinity test right, then it's low. what do i need to do to get the nitrate down? how is it that the ammonia and nitrite are perfect but everything else is messed up? is the...

    Nitrate Question

It's called NO3 Profi Test: Nitrate, from Salifert. this test is different than any other test i've used. it uses powder instead of drops and has a low range and medium range. i don't really understand that. My last water change was 2 days ago before we bought 3 fish. It was about 20%

    My poor yellow tang...

i think i figured it out, but i'm not sure. i think the test you're talking about is a little different than mine. but IF i did everything right, it looks like it is reading 25 in the medium range. the directions didn't say anything about dividing the number on the color chart by anything...

    Nitrate Question

I have had my tank for about 2 1/2 months now, and am for the first time testing my nitrate. (I didn't know there was a test specifically for nitrate) The test kit I got doesn't say what the ideal range is for marine fish. I don't really understand what it means by "low" and "medium" range...

what about the protein skimmer? it's got a little waterfall thing on it that pours water back into the tank. it's from red sea. it's called red sea prizm.

    My poor yellow tang...

i have a fluval 404 filter and a red sea prizm protein skimmer. i couldn't find the gph on the skimmer.
  19. J

    My poor yellow tang...

also, would it be a good idea to get a fluval surface skimmer?
  20. J

    My poor yellow tang...

how do you find out the gph for the protein skimmer and the fluval filter? I didn't see it anywhere.

    My poor yellow tang...

ps i just looked on the powerhead and it says 100-270 gph. but i think that it's mostly giving waterflow to the back side of the tank. it's sitting right behind the main fixture of liverock. and yes, (obviously) i do have liverock. i'm not sure how many lbs though. if you look at one of my...

    My poor yellow tang...

I can't take my lid off bc the light fixture is built in to it. it's got a flip top on one side, and i've been keeping that cracked. i don't know what to do to fix the temperature problem though. it keeps wanting to rise to 80-81 for some reason. when it gets colder at night it drops to about...

    My poor yellow tang...

Salttanker, Yes, lately my tang has been darting at the glass and wiggling around it. I thought maybe he was seeing his reflection. We don't have a background or anything on the tank, so I'm pretty sure they can see their reflection. But he might also be rubbing himself against the glass...

    My poor yellow tang...

P.S. I tested the water last night with the tests we do have, and the ammonia and nitrite were 0 and the ph was at 7.8 and the calcium was about 360-380.
