Hi I had a similar red spot on one of my guppies about a year ago soon after buying it. Someone on this forum suggested it was ammonia/nitrite burns and suggested a large water change and some salt. It cured it very quickly. Sorry to see your guppy die .

Oh yes decided not to get any more guppies until I've upgraded. The AqAdvisor site thinks I'd have to much bioload for my hagen stingray 10 filter if I get any more guppies. Next thing is to decide what to go with the existing stock if I upgrade.

Thanks, sounds like I need to be careful with the parameters but can get away with fish in cycling of the new tank as long as I use as much filter material from the old tank as possible.

Hi thanks for the compliment on the tank. No I haven't tried real plants this is my first go at fish keeping and that seemed a step too far !! My water naturally has high nitrates so not sure best way to bring it down. It was up to 40 just now.

Sure no worries. The more the merrier! It's really weird I come down in the morning and he's swimming around nicely. Come home at night when the tank light's on and he's at the bottom. Switch it off and he comes out. The other guppy is trying to get him to play but no good. Never done this...
