    Mushroom ****

I've sold them as well, and you're right, it's a profitable venture. But my problem is getting them off large rocks. I have a 300, and some of the rocks are huge, with other corals on them. So I can't simply take out the rock and sell it to LFS. I'm looking for a way to romove mushrooms...

    Lighting for 75 gallon

It all depends on what you're putting in the tank. If SPS, you need to get MH. If softies, T5, PC, and heck, if mushrooms and colts, a shop light will do. Personally, I think MH is the way to go, because it's the closest thing we can get to the sun. Heat is always an issue (pumps, lights...

    Mushroom ****

I love mushroom corals. However.....they have taken over. Can anyone suggest a way to either remove, or kill these critters. I've got a 300, with all kinds of corals, and it's gotten to the point where I need to trim them out to protect the sps. I've repeatedly sold mushrocks back to LFS...

When will this hobby slow down?

It slows down eventually. I've finally got my tank so there's no real room left. Took me two years. It's a 300.....but you got a 525???!!! Merci....that could take a decade. My advice....don't start adding it up......too scary. Hey, it beats being addicted to many other vices!!!!

How much do you think a hippo tang is worth

$30??? No way? I'm gonna fly there just to shop. At least 50 here for a 4 incher.

    What is this bubble?

It's nostoc, the green bubble algae alright. Reach in, grab it and twist. Usually come off pretty easily. Tongs will work. Emerald crabs only get the small. Be persistance, make sure your nitrates are low, and fill the tank with life you want, which will out compete them if tank conditions...

Anyone have experience with a Elegance coral?

Did the mantis shrimp come on some live rock? Or did you buy it? Has it given you any trouble in your reef?

    Lighting Suggestions (Metal Halide?!?!)

power compacts are a great, more inexpensive alternative if you don't plan on sps. Plus, they are much cooler.

    Lighting Suggestions (Metal Halide?!?!)

Be prepared for a temp elevation with your new lights. If you don't have a chiller, you may wish to aquire one.. Pricey, but worth the price. Your corals will love you for it.

Anyone have experience with a Elegance coral?

My elegance is incredible...my favorite. It's grown to the size of a basketball when expanded. This is my third one. I have mine down in the sand (like in Nature). They are sensitiv to injury and infection. Avoid having the coral in contact with anything else. They don't do well if other...

    Mantis shrimp make good pets

I would agree with the small ones...under two inches. But if you get ones that grow to 5 to 6 inches, forget it......they'll go after fish too. And they are fast.

    Mantis shrimp make good pets

mantis I used to do research on mantis shrimp in college. Great animals, but don't expect much to live with them. Had a two incher that would bang away day and night digging tunnels into rocks and eventually would stick its head out the new hole. Would attack anything though. Our research...

    Will I need a chiller.....

what are you planning on keeping? I just bought a chiller for my reef, and in 30 years in the hobby, it's the best thing i've ever done. You don't want temp fluctuation. My tank is better than it's ever been and I think the constant 79 temp I got going is the key. When I think at all the...

    Corals for beginners?

You can go wrong with mushrooms, and one of my favorites is the colt coral....grows well, sways in the water and cool to look at with a mag glass. I've always had great luck with euphelia...(frog spawn, torch, hammer) They can be spectacular.

Would you put a Coral Beauty in this tank?

coral beauties are great.....I've had one thrive in my reef for over five years.....tough and beautiful. I Would never have a tank with out one....and I've never seen him pick at any of my polyps. Easliy one of my favorite fish.

    scratches

There are sand paper repair kits you can buy that work very well......even when the tank is filled. On line shops have them, and there's a place in oregon that makes magnets with various pads for working on a filled tank. If you can do it before the tank is filled it works better. It does...

    temp is getting to hot

chillin For years i've been struggeling with temp....with halogen bulbs and all my pumps, the tank temp was getting too hot in the summer and fluctuating like crazy. After losing one too many corals, I finally said enough is enough and bought a chiller. Best thing I've done in 30 years in the...

    OVERHEATING

What do you have in your tank? 85 seems really high. I seem to lose sps every summer (along with other corals failing to thrive) and the only thing I can think of is the temp elevation...sometimes reaching 86. So I've caved and just ordered a chiller.

    attaching zenia to LR?

The guy at twins has lots of nice stuff he won't sell......the place at florin is overall my favorite place in sac....great selection, better prices than O street. Sells out quickly though. If I were coming from stockton though, I'd call to see what kind of stuff was coming in and when. Lot's...
