Does it stick out from the fish? Is it sort of like a little tiny balloon sticking out from its side? If it is, my new ocellaris clown has something like that too. I have no idea what it is. I just noticed it 2 days ago and it seems to be getting bigger.

It is very risky to rely on a siphon as an overflow because if the siphon breaks or the pump breaks or the power goes out it will overflow. Do you have any way to drill your tank? You can do it yourself really easily. You could drill it toward the bottom on the back wall and have a pipe go up to...

I believe it would be safe to remove the top brace seeing that many 30g tanks do not have the braces on top, but don't think it would be a good idea to remove the bottom brace. If it were removed then the 250 pounds of water plus the weight of whatever else is in there would all be on the bottom...

I don't know much of anything about painting the backs of tanks but it seems like it would be a lot easier just to buy a blue background from a fish store and tape or glue it on the back. Is there a reason this wouldn't work?

Can anyone ID the sea star I found on my live rock. I would say it was a brittle sea star but it has 6 arms! Also there is some sort of tube thing growing on it along with a pink little sprout I think it is too small to tell but I'm not sure. Also does anyone know what this orange algae is? :thanks:

I just put 8 pounds of liverock into my new 50 gallon saltwater tank. I just noticed two brittle sea stars that floated off the rock and are starting to move around the tank. I plan on making it a reef tank so do I need to irradicate them or are they harmless?

On my tank the sump was loud so I added 1/2" insulation foam on the inside walls of the stand and one on the back. I have not tested it with the foam yet but I think that it will get rid of some of the noise. When I test it I will post the results.

Does anyone have a design for a DIY canopy? I just finished my stand today. I believe i will set up the tank with rock so it can start cycling while i build the canopy. Thanks in advance.

The source of the siphon (where water is being sucked in) needs to higher than the end where water comes out. If the 10 gallon is substantially taller than the 5 than it may work if you put the overflow box on the 10 but the siphon would be weak if it doesn't go down far enough and it could...

I would put a tank behind one of those mirrors that you can press a button and suddenly they become clear. You could watch your fish while you brush your teeth!
