Sounds ok then. Generally I upgrade my tanks by just moving my filters over to the larger tank, along w/decor. I usually change the substrate, or bring that over too.
Why do you keep salt in your FW set-up? Waste of salt. Make sure to read that link about your puffer posted above. You must use marine salt & measure with a hydrometer.
Well, all those WC sure didn't hurt! Glad to hear that is straightened out. Is it 0 on your test kit? Cause at 5, my fish were struggling to stay alive!
I also use a refractometer. I'd definately calibrate any hydrometer (especially the floating kind) against one, to find out how much they are off. I believe the floating ones are calibrated for temps in the 60s.
The puffer will more than likely kill much larger fish than what you even have. They have known to go on fin-rides of silver dollars 20x their size! I highly suggest not putting any puffer of any kind in w/your fish. Dwarf puffers are in no way, mild-mannered puffers.
Sounds like something could be rotting in your tank. More than likely though, the kit is wrong, cause at 10 nitrItes, your fish would all be dead. Sure that isn't nitrAtes?
