What is a good type of fish food?

If you could get live food its better than frozen, but its always good to have a vary in food. There are also different flakes. I have regular reef flake and flakes with garlic.

    Still more algae?

Your fishes should be fine if your ammonia and nitrites levels are at 0 and if your nitrates levels are low. Some fishes such as Tangs eat some algae that grows in your tank.

    Still more algae?

I had problems with algae as well. Now I have almost none. I bought 7 Turbo snails for my 55G and they eat up all my algae.

    Fluval 206

The Fluval 206 is definitely too small. For better filtration he should get a 306 or 406. If he gets the 406 he wouldn't have to change the media as often.

    Water Temp

It is said that 72°-78° is best. But you also have to remember that is you have the temp too high, the lights would add 2° or more depending how long it stays on.

    Protein skimmer

I also have a sump, but a sump can be converted to a refrigium if necessary. I planned on making mine as a refrigium, but remember that if you have a refrigium you'll need to buy a light source for it as well. EBay will be your best bet for that.

    55G Saltwater Tank

I'm just waiting for my nitrites to go down. For now my ammonia is between .25 and 0ppm, my nitrite is 2ppm and nitrate is at 20ppm. I checked this morning. Since I made my sump into a refrugium, I plan on getting some macroalgae to reduce my nitrates levels. But I'll still do my water changes...
