    Eggs all over my tank!

I have had that very same thing happen to mine...I think when the craving hits those Plecos can't resist and that's all for the eggs. You will have another chance tho......

    Eggs all over my tank!

I will definitely not give up then...next time I'll harvest a few...Thanks for the tip on the straw method...that's a neat idea. On the other post...I wouldn't think that letting the egg sack dry out during a water change would be advisable....maybe someone else will have an idea on it tho..

    Eggs all over my tank!

Well, I just learned why my Cory eggs never hatch...and I get tons of them every so often...they are always clear with a white center...and yes they do grow fungus but are eaten anyway by that 13" Pleco.....every time. I had gotten some Methylene Blue to stop the fungus and was going to try...

    New Discovery (EGGS) !

Well, none of the eggs hatched out---they slowly over about two weeks disappeared...I started to try to remove some initially, but they were really stuck and it seemed they would be damaged so I left them alone... Now TODAY that Cory Cat is at it again laying more eggs all over the place---I was...

    New Discovery (EGGS) !

Hey Tankgirl & Whitetiger --Thanks for the food advice!! I'll do exactly that. The egg bit got me tickled because if they were kin to any of the catfish here in Ark. you could just find the nastiest thing you could get and they would love it!!! :D There are way too many eggs to count and if I...

    New Discovery (EGGS) !

Thanks for all the replies everyone! I've only got this one 29 gal tank but the population is of neons and cardinals--my giant 12" Pleco and 2 cory cats. I'm hoping some would survive. I've done a little research today and the problem I foresee is food after they consume the yolksac. Looks like...

    New Discovery (EGGS) !

In all my years of having an aquarium I've never had catfish lay eggs that I was aware of. Last night to my surprise there were eggs all over the heater, sponge filter, plants, and tubing. The Cory Cat was still laying out more too. This may be old stuff for a lot of you -- but it is a first...

RE- Hey Tankgirl !! Yeah, I'll sure watch things for awhile. I waited a while to claim a Victory.....I wanted to be pretty sure of things before posting. I do appreciate all the help---that UGF is one job I'll never face again. It was the pitts too!!!! Looking forward to better days!!!

Update--Finally Good Levels & Cleared Water!!

Just wanted to update--with a Thanks to all who contributed advice! Since getting the UG filter OUT of my tanks and getting a powerhead with a quickfilter attached--things have leveled out really good. Nitrates are still a little high but everything else is great---finally! UG filters should...

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

I really think my whole problem stemmed from UGF gunk overload. My tap water also tested 0 NitrAtes--. Where I live we are lucky to keep the water going--sometimes the chlorine runs low and I have to call them because the water starts smelling like a sewer--nice huh. People would be surprised if...

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

Thanks for the info! Neat trick on filtering the siphoned water too. I am in the process of eliminating the UGF altogether--a real mess! When I stuck that siphon hose down the lift tube pipe--what came out of there doesn't need to be!! I already have a 350gph power filter and a (double sponge...

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

That is probably what is going to happen in the end. I'll try to siphon some of it out for now so as to not have such a mess later. You just can't get to the problem to clean it up. With everyones replies today I think I'll get this under control--thanks to all of you. 8)

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

I would love to hear some opinions on reverse flow powerheads attached to the UG filters. Looks like that would prevent this buildup from occuring again in the future?? Thanks. :?:

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

I've used the same food for a long time--TetraMin Flakes-very small pinch for the tetras--Hikari wafers for the Pleco 2 every other day--Wardley Shrimp pellets--just a few for cats. I've even cut this down during these problems--which occurred from my lack of attention cleaning and the Pleco...

This experience makes me question whether I even want to keep a UG filter!! Do you use one?

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

You can stay on that soapbox! Haha. It seems I need all the advice right now anyway! In the past I have had to do little for pH as you say. It's 7.2 now. As for the UG filter--it's been in place for 4 and 1/2 years---never had to breakdown the tank. It is possible that it has caught up with me...

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

Thanks for the reply!! The gravel has been cleaned well while doing the water changes with the Python attachment and nothing new has been added. No fish are missing to contribute to contamination. Unless like you mentioned a couple of weeks ago there is a lot of gunk under that UG filter--I...

Still Dealing With White Cloudy Water !

Since my Ammonia spike--0:% for about 3 weeks--NitrIte 0%--Nitrate 80-160--Phosphate 5.0. I've been doing reg water changes 15-30% twice a week--Nitrate is high even immediately after the change. Tap water is 0%. Water remains cloudy white. Added a Purigen pkg in power filter yesterday--no...

    Cloudy Water after cycling

Cloudy Water--- I started using Seachem--Neutral Regulator 7.0 after the ammo spike--being that it is a white powder--have u ever used it or could it being contributing to this cloudiness? Also the NitrIte test kit should be here Monday (20th) so I'll know about that then--continuing small...
