HELP!!!! Can anyone ID this fish PLEASE!!!!

Definitely a damsel of some type (there are over 300) based on body and behavior. I haven't seen any with that exact coloration but my bet is some Oscellate variant. The long nose in one pic is just distortion through the glass at the angle the pic was taken.

    Tank stocking

+1 on the Anthias. My trio exhibit some shoaling traits from the wild. They will get about mid-tank level on one side where the current flows from the bottom towards the top of the tank and just hang out. They will angle themselves downward into the current and sit almost motionless for...

    Nitrate problems

Not near as much bio-load in the 10 as the 150. And you are doing a 50% change in the 10 vs 8.33% in the 150 (must add the sump water in the calculation). My money is still on the test kit. Get a Salifert and compare.

    Help help help needed!

I would want to know what caused the crack in the brace? Was the tank handled improperly? What may the consequences be down the road if the tank structure was stressed? :hide: I would query your neighbor about how it got cracked.

    Ordering Fish From Online Sources

Live Aquaria is the only online place I order from now. Specimens are extremely healthy, well packed with fast delivery and excellent customer service. Immediately after the appropriate acclimation process, all specimens were accepting food. I've only had one problem with their fish. I...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Moved 3 Lyretail Anthias from QT to DT. First fish in the newly cycled 125gal!! Four hours of lights out and two hours after that they would play peek-a-boo. Another hour and all three ate a little brine shrimp. :thumb: There are one male and two females. Both females are a reddish...

    Circulation

One thing I wasn't clear about in my post... Make sure you briefly open the air valve THEN CLOSE IT. You want just a small burst of bubbles to watch your flow pattern.

    Circulation

Best placement is hard to tell. It will depend on what you have where in your tank such as equipment and decorations. When setting up my 125gal, I put an airstone in my return line before the return pump (because microbubbles show better), turn it on briefly, then check the bubble flow pattern...

    Water Change chemicals

+1 What he said. Until you are able to get your own RO/DI unit, go buy distilled water. Any other decision you will regret sooner or later. And sooner more times than not.

    quarantine tank

Besides, diseases are more prevalent than you think. Healthy fish are not as prone to the diseases that may be introduced or that they themselves may even carry. Stress is a major cause as to why fish get sick. It inhibits their immune system from fending off the effects of diseases. Think...

    The sea

This was not an invert so take it with a grain of salt. I caught a baby puffer in a shrimp net when I lived in Charleston SC. Took him home, did the drip acclimation and put him in my tank. Kept him for 2 years until I moved! He had the most beautiful blue eyes and would come to the front of...

    Explain fishless cycle stall

So a condition that has changed that is not conducive to bacteria growth? That could make sense but I need to investigate that a little more.
  22. D

    Explain fishless cycle stall

You are correct. I wasn't meaning removing the bacteria. I was referencing removing the nitrite which is the food to build the second stage of the bacteria colony.
  23. D

    Explain fishless cycle stall

I have heard that while doing a fishless cycle and your nitrites fail to come down, your cycle may have stalled and doing a 50% water change can get it going again. Can someone explain this to me? From what I know about the nitrogen cycle, I just don't understand how the cycle can stall and...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Being impatient waiting for the tank to cycle! Ammonia-consuming bacteria is established. I can dose ammonia and it is gone in 24 hours. NItrites have spiked and seem to be coming down but very slowly. Nitrates are off the chart. Waiting for nitrites to read 0 ppm then ready for big water...
