    Water changes, aged water, KH/GH

Won't that effect the pH though? I don't want my pH to change at all. I also want to make sure I'm maintaining levels in my tank, so I'd rather have more control so I don't change levels in the tank, in case something goes wrong.

    Water changes, aged water, KH/GH

I did some searches, but I would like some input from you guys. I have always used water straight from the tap for my water changes, the smaller tanks get the bucket system since the Python is too much. (I add dechlorinators though!) OK, so here are my thoughts....I have an extra powerhead. So...

    Southern Spatterdock (Nuphar lutea)

Should I remove the leaves, since they are melting? I read that these are bad with the end of the tuber rotting, which is why it should be sideways. And I also read that these get to to 8' across in ponds and will take over an aquarium...?

    Southern Spatterdock (Nuphar lutea)

I recently purchased 2 of these in a plant order, and I can't find much information on them... They are in a new tank, but I gather they might grow too large eventually. Anyone have advise on how I should handle them? I read a post that mentioned laying the tuber sideways instead of...

    Lilaeopsis novaezelandiae

I purchased some of this to try it out. It was put in a new tank I set up, and the leaves are all turning light green. Anyone have experience with this plant? I'm clueless on it's reqirements, and I'm not finding much detailed information.. Christina

    Fuzz or Beard Algae ?

Hmm, I don't recall what it smelled like. It is mainly on the leaves that float on the surface, attached to the leaves. I'm assuming it likes the light. But looking at it in the water, it looks like fluffs of green, fine fuzz. My plants have been doing not so well, and that's been my 'best'...

    Fuzz or Beard Algae ?

Well, the plants in the tank have been doing horribly. I just pulled as many leaves off that had the algae on them. But little "hairs" floated around the tank. I also see short "hairs" on the driftwood. There were air bubbles all around where the algae was bunched on the leaves, and it was...

    Upsidedown Otto...

Should I blanch the veggie first? I know I have read to do so, since it will help soften them up.

    Upsidedown Otto...

Lori, I haven't been yet. The 55 gallon has a lot of algae, so I didn't think I should yet. My 20 gallon is looking clean, so I am about to start doing that. I will probably see what happens in the 55 as well. I have tossed algae tabs in both tanks, but none of the fish seemed...

    Upsidedown Otto...

As I was feeding my fish earlier, I thought I had a dead Otto. It was just floating on the top of the water. So I went to get a net....then realized it was just hanging out upside down, apparently eating something off the top of the water. Any one else seen this behavior? I now recall I...

    Fuzz or Beard Algae ?

In my 20 gallon Dwarf Puffer tank, I have an algae outbreak. It is green and kind of looks like bunches of fine fuzz. It is mainly on the Aponogeton leaves that have reached the water line. I guess smaller versions are in some other tanks on driftwood and plants. Is there a specific name...

    stocking a 75 gallon, ideas??

I have a friend who has a 75 gallon tank, and he wants me to help him with stocking ideas. However, my idea of cool fish isn't the same as his! He likes darker blue fish, and would like a lot of activity and color in the tank. He had a Jack Dempsey before, but I think he wants to go with...

    Cory deaths (fin rot?)

I have read a few things about cories and fin erosion. I have Panda and Juhli cories. No problems with the Pandas, and all the other fish in the tank are great. However, I lost the last 2 Juhlis the past few days. They were on the smaller side, and I have had them for at least a month. I...

    Stocking a 29 gallon...

I think I am going to just buy a 50 gallon (36"x18"x17") for the puffers. It is actually going to be about the same price as the 29 gallon would cost me locally, I'm just having to drive a few hours to get it.

    Stocking a 29 gallon...

I'm not concerned with the Puffers, they won't fit in the 29 gallon. I just want to know if the others will.... But they are South American Puffers, 4 of them. I want them in a tank at least 36" wide. I'm either using my existing 55, or buying a new tank for them.

    Stocking a 29 gallon...

Hello, I have run into an issue as I bought 4 puffers and I don't have a tank for them... I have time, so I am debating on buying a 40 gallon for them, or thinking of putting them in my 55 gallon, and moving those fish out. I would have 6 swordtails (2m/4f), and a pair of platies. I...

    starting an Aquarium Society ?

Yep, we have tried anything we can think of to find the group. I'm going to talk to an LFS tomorrow about what I want to do, and see what she has to say. I'm pretty much clueless on what these clubs do. I will also look up some tomorrow, and do some reading on what others do. I've had...

    starting an Aquarium Society ?

Please move this if it should be in another section. I was wondering if anyone was an active member of a local Aquarium Group? I am thinking of trying to start something in my area, but I have no idea where to start! There used to be one here, but I believe they disbanded a few years ago...

Java Fern in light brackish tank

If anyone has experience with Java Ferns in a brackish tank, I need some advice! (Or other plants as well.) I am probably going to have to acclimate the puffers I am getting from freshwater to the bracksih they should be living in. I have been told I'll need to go slow, mainly for the...

    Mild brackish tank ideas/pics?

Thanks everyone! I may go ahead and do this tank next, as it won't cost as much since I don't need to spend the money on lighting. I know some people have been able to do Java Ferns in a light brackish tank though. I have a feeling the Figure 8's I'll be getting will be from a place that...
