Help! How do you remove frag glue from acrylic?

I appreciate everyone's tips. I did some research and was told by several sources not to use nail polish remover or acetate on acrylic. It will soften the acrylic and will most likely cause serious damage. I read about the razor blade method and then using a buffer to get the scratches out...

Help! How do you remove frag glue from acrylic?

Thanks for the reply. I assumed that nail polish remover or acetone would be too harsh to use on the outside of my tank. I also read that acetone would also be a solvent for acrylic so I was kind of hesitant to go that route.

Help! How do you remove frag glue from acrylic?

I had to re-attach a frag to a piece of live rock and somehow I accidentally got some glue (cyanoacrylate) on the outside of my acrylic tank. I tried to carefully clean it off, but it ended up smearing and now it looks like bird poop on the outside of my tank. Does anyone know how I can dissolve...

    White hairy crab?

Yeah, I haven't been successful in catching it yet, but I will probably drop him in the sump if I can ever catch it...

    White hairy crab?

Thanks mfdrookie516 for providing detailed instructions, that makes a lot of sense. I'm going to try it, but I'm a little skeptical that I will be successful because I've only seen the teddy bear crab three times over the span of a few years. I'm not sure which rock its hiding in. I also think...

    White hairy crab?

On second thought, it's definitely a teddy bear crab (Polydectus cupulifer). Bad news is that other people have reported them eating their fish and that's it is definitely not reef safe...:(

    White hairy crab?

I think you've identified it!!! OMG! I just did a picture search on Yahoo for "Gorilla Crab" and I found someone that posted pics that look exactly like mine. Thanks for your help. I'm going to have to do some research about them...

    White hairy crab?

I just don't know how I will get it out... I agree that it's probably a bad crab, but I just don't know how I'm going to get it out without disturbing the rocks and corals in my tank. I've only seen it a couple of times over the course of a few years (and each time it seems to have doubled in...

    White hairy crab?

I forgot to include the second pic Here is the second pic of that I was able to get of the crab. I've only seen it a couple of times over the years and it seems to be really cognizant of my presence and hides as soon as I enter the room. I'm really concerned that it may have eaten a few smaller...

    White hairy crab?

I finally got a picture of the white hairy crab! I know it's been a long time since I originally posted this topic, but I finally got a couple of pics of the hairy white crab and was hoping someone could help identify it. It's grown quite a bit and the body alone was a bit larger than a...

    White hairy crab?

I agree roka64, I didn't really have high hopes considering I wasn't able to get a picture. Unfortunately, my camera battery was dead when I tried to take a picture of it. I didn't see it on Xtalreef, but it sort of resembled the "hairy crab" only alot hairy and I didn't notice any eyes. Oh...

Should I replace my Mag-Drive 7 pump or just buy a new impeller?

Good thinking jim692! I hadn't thought of that, but I'll give that a try before ordering anything. Thanks for the advice!

Should I replace my Mag-Drive 7 pump or just buy a new impeller?

Thanks Ziggy! I suppose I will start with a replacement impeller and then if that doesn't work, I will buy a new Mag-Drive 7. I suppose worst case scenario is that I will have an extra impeller in case this happens again. I just didn't want to invest money into an inferior brand, but since...

    White hairy crab?

No, the legs looked somewhat similar, but the body was more round and larger. The body was probably the size of a quarter. I was really shocked that something this big could've been crawling around for years and I had never seen it. It also looked kind of hairy. I almost thought it was some kind...

    White hairy crab?

I know it's difficult to identify because I couldn't get a pic, but I found what appears to be a crab (it really looked like a tarantula spider, but was underwater) crawling on my live rock. I had never seen it before and was shocked at how big it was. The body was approximately 1 inch wide and...

Should I replace my Mag-Drive 7 pump or just buy a new impeller?

Thanks for the advice. I checked everything again, but it didn't resolve anything. Considering I can't diagnose the problem, I suppose I should skip buying an impeller and just buy an entirely new pump. Any thoughts on a more reliable brand or type of pump than mag-drive?

Should I replace my Mag-Drive 7 pump or just buy a new impeller?

I have a Mag-Drive 7 pump in my sump that serves as my return pump. I recently unplugged it to clean the tank and it made a humming noise when I plugged it back in, but it didn't pump any water. I shook it around a bit and it started working again, but it doesn't seem to be pumping as hard. This...

How do you make your soft corals thrive when they start to shrink down?

I usually perform either 10% weekly water changes or 20% if I let it go 2 weeks without a change. But as I mentioned, I've had several soft and hard corals that have been in the tank just as long if not longer the Kenya Tree Coral and everything else is thriving and growing.

How do you make your soft corals thrive when they start to shrink down?

Forgive me for not being able to articulate my question better. I've have a Kenya Tree Coral for about 4 years now and for the first 3 years it was thriving, growing, and doing well in my tank. But the last year it has shrunk down to about 1/3 of it's size and it never seems to extend and...

How do you get salt creep off of your lighting hood or fixture?

I had never heard of the water/vinegar idea. I will definitely give that a try! I tend to agree with Melosu58's theory as to what is causing it.

How do you get salt creep off of your lighting hood or fixture?

No bubble wands or anything spraying. I do have my nozzle from my return pump pointed at an angle so that it creates movement on top of the water, but nothing really blatant where the water is splashing everywhere. Also, the light hood is the main thing that gets salt creep. A little on my hang...

How do you get salt creep off of your lighting hood or fixture?

I've had a problem with salt creep on my lighting fixture and I can't seem to get it off. I'm not sure if the hood is made of plastic or fiberglass or what, but it's the same material as most lighting hoods. I've tried wiping it down and spraying the hood with Salt Creep. This seems to work...

Are all shrimps compatible with eachother?

If you do decide to go with the watchman goby and pistol shrimp I would suggest you buy them at the same time. In my experience, they are more likely to pair up together if they are introduced together. I've never had a watchman goby pair up with a cleaner or peppermint shrimp though. But then...

Flame Angels..Are they good with Inverts?

The flame angel has always been my favorite fish. It's just really striking and grabs your attention with it's color. I had to get rid of mine when I converted to a reef tank, but I really miss that fish. Just keep in mind that you won't be able to keep soft corals and apparently clam mantels in...

    Just startin out.

You're right Ziggy953, I forgot to mention the T5 fixture. I agree it is much better than MH in terms of power use. Either way, the bottom line is you will need much stronger lighting than a traditional fluorescent bulb hood in order to set up a reef tank.
