    fancy goldfish

I switched to bare from fine gravel a couple weeks ago. My two boys always had gravel in their mouths so that was a major factor in the choice. Bare is so much easier to clean. I didn't experience a bump in my cycle but one of them did get a case of fin rot. So if you do switch keep a very close...

    Help! comet fish!?

Water changes and lots of them are going to be your best friend. I recommend testing everyday as even in a 15 the levels are going to get up there very quickly. Just as an example I have 2 goldfish (body length of about 2.5-3 inches each) in a fully cycled, 37 gallon tank and I have to do twice...

Wow! Where do you keep that many 2 litre bottles? That must take up a massive amount of room!

    Sick oranda from petstore

I'm happy to hear she is doing well. I find it easier to get video of my boys than it is to get good pics. Why don't you try that?

Discussion Time - Gravel or Sand

So what is the best type of sand to get? I've heard children's play sand and blasting sand. I'm about to start up a Fluval edge 12g and I want to try light coloured sand. I want to add easy, low light plants so does the type of sand play into that decision?

    Talk me out of it!

Figures...... Bought a gently used Fluval Edge 12g (I wanted to get one eventually, just not right now) for $150 so I could take this little one home. So I phoned today to say I would take him only to find out they moved him into a 20g at work till she could take him home for her son. Lol At...

    Talk me out of it!

Hi. I am trying to find a quarantine tank for it so I can rescue it. I live in a small town with no pet store so finding a tank isn't easy. I might have to resort to a Rubbermaid tub. I'll update if I take it in!

    New tank

No problem. Just one short year ago I was on here asking for help with my new tank. I'm happy to hear they are doing well.

    White bump on goldfish head

Maybe if that part was out of the water for a couple days (because of hanging out at the surface) it dried out? Now that they are back to normal it is rehydrating?

    New tank

Good luck! Maybe you can seed from you older tank in a week or two. Enjoy the new tank!

    New tank

It all depends on what your readings are. If the ammonia and nitrites stay below 0.25 then 3-4 gallons is enough. If they go higher then you will need to do bigger and more frequent changes. Say if your ammonia is 0.5 you will need to do a 10 gallon change to get it down to 0.25.

    New tank

Too bad it's only just finished. I would have recommended taking some of the filter media from it and putting it in the filter in the new tank. But you don't want to mess with it for a bit I'm thinking. Wait till it's settled. Looks like you'll be doing a fish-in cycle on your new tank. Just...

My goldfish is constantly floating to the top of the tank and laying there upsidedown

Hi. Looks like swim bladder issues to me. Most likely from feeding floating food. They take in too much air while feeding at the surface. Try feeding only peas (make sure to de-shell and de-husk them and cut them up to bite size) for a few days to see if that helps. It would be better to...

    Sick oranda from petstore

The first time I noticed it I asked one of the kids working there. He said that the head office didn't allow them to use medicine on the fish since it wasn't cost effective. When I went back months later and saw it was much worse I sent an email to the head office about it. They forwarded it to...

    Sick oranda from petstore

Awww. That poor fish! It's dorsal fin is completely gone! One of the big chain stores in the city near me has a terribly sick goldfish wall. The black moores are almost white with ich. I sent a complaint and was told they have been treating the wall for a month. Went back a couple weeks later...
