    How to start a siphon

I use a small hand pump to start a siphon for emptying water from the tank. It works great. Also remember its always easier if you can have a big hight difference from tank to bucket. If you don't want or can't get a hand pump, you could try filling the siphon with water and block both ends...

    My fluval edge 6g

I have had that exact stock in that exact tank! Betta was great in that tank. He had no trouble finding the air gap, but just keep the filter flow turned down for him/her. Shrimp are also great. However my Betta DID NOT like sharing a tank with shrimp and bullied them mercilessly. From...

    Fungal infection.

Sadly my Betta died today and from reading around I'm pretty sure fungal infection is the cause. I want to know how to make sure my tank is clear of this / how long to wait to put a new fish in as I don't want it to happen again.

Great, thanks for the advice :-)

    Betta bioload

6 it is then :) The filter is established but currently only deals with a single Betta so wasn't sure if 6 nano fish would overwhelm the levels of BB in there for a while. Thanks for the advice though!

    Fry survival?

I believe the females are likely to eat the fry but of course depending on how many fry you end up with and how heavily planted the tank is, some will survive to be bigger than bite size.

    Betta bioload

I am movingly Betta out of my cycled 6gal tank (running a HoB filter that came with it) and looking to restock it with nano fish, probably CPDs. How much extra bioload will this be? Should I expect to be thrown into a little cycle while the BB catches up? Should I add fish a few at a time? I...

    Nano build x2

Ok thanks for the input! Black gravel seems popular generally so think ill give that a go. Will hold off on background till everything else is done. Hope the CPDs look better once I get them home than they do in the shop.. Endlers seem more active & bright (&cheap). Still undecided there but...

    fish jokes

It depends if the shark is included in the original 5 fish. If they are all just swimming in the cave and then a shark comes into the cave from outside but decides to only eat four of the original 5 fish, then the answer could be two? All this math is making me crabby.

    Nano build x2

Hello all. I am in the process of moving my Betta from a 6Gal fluval edge into a new more conventionally shaped tank so he has a bit more surface area. The tank is purchased but nothing else yet and I will also want to re-stock the edge once he is moved, so I hope to use this thread to gather...

Maidenhead @ coton seems really good I've been there a couple times. Yeh Pets at home is convenient but can be hit or miss with fish. Afraid I can't help with platies as my two tanks are both too small and full lol.

Tank Size Suitable for a Betta?

Agreed of course the bigger the better :) And sorry I didn't mean to Suggest you NEED a heater, just that you need a stable temp. I guess you can get away with more in Florida than in the UK(!)

Tank Size Suitable for a Betta?

That looks to be just over 4 US Galons. I think you will find people have different opinions on the 'minumum' size to keep a Betta, but I think that is probably ok - assuming it is filtered and kept at a good temparature.

    Water Python

I think you can add the dechlorinator immediately afterwards, but you have to use a dose for the whole tank volume (not just the amount you changed). Someone more experienced may correct me...

Lol no I meant just add a snail to the Betta I already have in there on his own

    Betta & mystery snail?

Ok thanks good to know. I might give it a try to liven the tank up more. Hopefully he will just ignore it - not sure why he is so merciless with shrimp. Is there another type of snail that might suit my tank better?

    Betta & mystery snail?

What are people's experience of this combination? Can it work? The tank is 6gal with just one Betta at the min. In the LFS he lived fine with small fish but he does not play nice with my shrimp...

    Algae?

Hi all. I have a 6gal tank with 1 Betta in. I fishless cycled it a little while (2 months) ago but am going through a mini cycle thanks to a long power cut which caused the filter media to dry out while I was out of town. There are lots of fake plants & 3 moss balls. Fish seems healthy and...
