Where is the best place to get corals around here

I can't post on that forum, but I am interested in a trip to Richmond. However, there is a good chance I will go to a meeting in Miami and may take my dive gear and head to Key Largo for that weekend. Please keep me posted and I will try and watch the other forum.

    Lighting for Frags or Fish

Willing to trade 3x 175W MH ballasts, sockets and used bulbs or a dual 55W PC ballast with new bulbs for corals, frags or fish. I live in the Waynesboro area. Shipping is probably too expensive for the MH ballasts, but I will be happy to ship the PC stuff.

    Trade Lighting for Corals

Willing to trade 3 175w metal halide ballasts or a 2 x 55W PC ballast, either with bulbs, for frags or fish. The metal halides are heavy, so they are probably not worth shipping. I live in Waynesboro.

Where is the best place to get corals around here

I find that the best stores are in Richmond: Fish World on Busy Street off of 60 and Atlantis off of 6 (Patterson Road) near Short Pump Road. PM me for directions. They both are well worth the trip. Atlantis has frags. Fish World is more expensive and sells only whole pieces.

    Free Sand

I'm decommissioning my SW frag tank. I have about two 5-gallon buckets (salt-container's) of not-so-live sand. I don't want to wash and dry it to store it. Free. Come and get it in Wayensboro. Norm 540-836-3831

Will this RO unit be good?

Jeeze for a few more bucks you get a 50 gpd and clear canisters and a pressure gauge and an in-line TDS. http://www.aquariumwaterfilters.com/RODI/Barracuda.html Norm Webmaster http://www.aquariumwaterfilters.com

Will this RO unit be good?

May I suggest you check out our library article on what to look for in a RO/DI filter. What we have in there is not just to sell filters, but it what I personally use. http://www.aquariumwaterfilters.com/Library/Filter_FAQ.html Norm Webmaster http://www.aquariumwaterfilters.com

    Question about RO/DI

I guess it is a matter of preference. Frankly, I do not have the time nor the patience to constantly check my output with a handheld TDS. I use an in-line TDS meter which is not a whole lot more expensive than the hand-held. Also, I can't imagine not having clear canisters - I like to see...

Reef Ready tank or overflow boxes?

I recommend reef-ready (pre-drilled) if at all possible. I have NEVER had good luck with overflows - they always seem to loose prime. Others seem to have better luck. Since I travel and may be gone for several weeks at at time, it is important that the tank not lose circulation through the...

    considering a flame angel

I have a flame and love it. Just be sure you do not keep it in a tank with other pygmy angels of similar body shape like a Coral Beauty.

    Question about RO/DI

Just to put in my opinion. I agree with the previous posters that clear canisters are important so you can see the state of your sediment filter and DI. I also like a pressure gauge to monitor my membrane and an in-line TDS meter instead of a hand-held. We have put together a FAQ on what to...

    Ro/Di Filter questions

Your assumptions are absolutely correct. However, I am a gadget guy and I like to monitor things - thus I like an in-line TDS meter, a pressure gauge and clear housings. If you ever exceed your GAC capacity and chlorine gets to your membrane, it will destroy it in short order. A pressure...

    Ro/Di Filter questions

After you use it for a few months. I'd like to hear what you think. My concerns would be that there is no pressure gauge, so you don't know how your membrane is doing. There is no TDS meter, so you do no know if your DI is going and you can't see any of your filter cartridges so you have to...

Aug-Sept: Let's hear about the bargains you've found...

I would avoid Rio's. They just don't seem to last and some models are oil-filled which can be a disaster if it has a problem (and it will). I was lucky my Rio 2100 just froze and didn't crack so I never found out if it was oil-filled or not. I like Mag's for inexpensive pumps and have been...

Oscillating Powerhead - anyone ever use?

It is important to replicate as much of the natural rhythms of the ocean in our tanks - thus the term mini-reef. An important element of that is wave motion which brings food to the corals and removes wastes as well. Most corals have one common orafice for input and output so having current...

Oscillating Powerhead - anyone ever use?

I use an OsciWave and love it. I have a MJ1200 on it and it creates a nice wave in the tank from a corner. IMO it beats a wavemaker since the powerhead is on all the time and does not get switched on and off. I accidentally dropped it in my tank and Bruce replaced the guts for $20. I'm...
