    Sick platy :/

The LFS told me hardened stomach so I skipped a feeding and he's now swimming with the others and his colors are vibrant. Yay :)

Also, FWIW, the 7 other adult platies are AOK as best I can tell

    Sick platy :/

This one female platy has been siting on the bottom in the sand for about a week now. She can swim when it's feeding time but it looks like it's not very easy on her. She will lose some of her color some days but it seems the dark and rest will restore a lot of it the next day. Is this some...

    My tap water :(

Also, double and triple check your are adding the correct amount of drops for each individual test. They are all not the same.

    My tap water :(

I've seen people suggest to call your water supplier if you are on a municipal system. Ask if they have been working on the system or if you should always expect your nitrites to be #ppm? If you're on a well you're going to have to smaller wwc and let the BB get rid of the ammonia and nitrites...

When do I stop feeding First Bites to platy fry?

They won't try to eat them if he's a cm or more. At that size they are fast enough and strong enough to avoid. If you have decent coverage and hiding spots. If it's a sparsely decorated tank or smaller than 30g, it might be better to wait til 2cm

    Platy male to female ratio

Wait a month or two you'll have plenty of new platies to pick and choose tankmates from. If there is a lot of deco and hiding spots that is.

What do i do with this snail problem?

I've never tried it but a couple of the algae removing tablets I've seen say not to use them with invertebrates like snails. Also not to use them with live plants. Might kill em, not sure but it's an idea. I've ordered an Assasin snail to clean up some of mine, though I don't mind them cause...

    advise - ammonia

What test kit are you using? The API Master Kit doesn't show yellow unless it's 0 ppm. Even at .25 ppm it's a slight green tint

    Kuhli Loaches

Angelwings, I don't know. I'm not any kind of an expert on bioload, and it looks like you already have a cleanup crew. They do recommend no less than 5 from everything I've read on them. Kuhlis are my favorite, and they hide quite often so it keeps you wanting to see them more

    Kuhli Loaches

Jayhawks, you can always supplement with bottom feeder tablets if you overstock them. I would go with at least 15 in a tank that size because they may not group all together if you have multiple caves/hiding spots. They are more bold when they feel safe in a group. They also will forage during...

Adding kuhli loaches to a 10 gallon tank.

My kuhli's live in the base of a large ornament and I rarely see any of the 7 as they like the dark way more. They are by far my favorite fish!

    Aquarium stands

All stands you see in the big box pet stores are made to resist water to some degree. As long as it's not a constant wetting it should be fine for years.

    Lights

I've read that all fish need a period with zero tank lighting and minimal external tank lighting.

    Cycling question!

Water contains very very few beneficial bacteria, thus the difference between 'cycled' water and 'non-cycled' water is negligible

Invasive snails vs my Kuhli Loaches

I had a couple snails hitchhike on some plants given to me by my LFS and they now number about 15-20 and are all at or approaching pencil eraser size. They have been down in the sand the last couple days so my question is, are they competing wit and denying my 7 small to medium sized Kuhli...

    ONE fry?

There are 8 platies and 7 small Kuhli Loaches, I hope the fry can swim fast! I put her back in general population. Going to setup a 10 gallon for birthing cause I want to make this easier.

    ONE fry?

Found another fry last night swimming in the tank, put the prego platy back in the fry trap and nothing after 12 hours. I'm even more confused. I did manage to net the fry and drop him/her in the net mesh breeder. I guess I'm going to give up on the fry trap for now and just try and catch any...

Do khulis need a 55 gallon?

I have 7 small ones in my 29g and I rarely see more than one or two. If I see more than two are in the same area I call it a Kuhli Loach party hahah. I really like them!

    ONE fry?

I have 3 female Variatus Paties and tonight before I was about to go out I noticed what I thought was food caught in a current but then realized it was a single fry darting away from something. I put the two most pregnant of the three in a floating fry trap and scooped up the fry in a net and...

    My Fish Bowl

eduguy, your fish will die soon, adding an air stone/pump/whatever will only slightly help. It's the ammonia and nirites that are poisonous to a fish. The smaller the tank, the less water, the quicker the poisons build up. For a fish to thrive they need a filter, a heater, a light source, an...
