    Are these anemones bad??

You can use Joe's Juice. Everyone seems to like that alternative if adding peppermint shrimp is not an option (non-reef safe tank). Personally, I'd go for the peps. They add more life to your tank (even though they only sway back and forth all day, lol) HTH!

    lights and time

Lando, I have the exact same light schedule as you do. Works well for me. The moonlights (LED's) will run for years without being turned off, and they use very little electricity. If that is still a concern, you can put them on timers too ;)

    CPR Aquafuge

Tripper, I would get the Jalli light for the hob fuge. When you do add some type of macro, keeping the lights on overnite ( when your daylights are off) will help to keep the oxygen levels in check. I find that it is common for hobbyists to leave the fuge light on 24/7 , but having them on...

How long should I wait to get an urchin??

Yes, thank you both for sharing those pictures with us. They are amazing creatures. I love the look of the blue tux and the black longspine. 1. Should I wait a few weeks or do I have the green light to get these guys? 2. Any pointers to keep them healthy other than the obvious (good...

    "Milky" Water Please Help

I wouldn't add any of those "additives" unless you absolutely need to. Success in a marine tank it centered around how close you are able to recreate the natural ocean environment. I wouldn't worry to much about it. When you get your sand and LR in there and the tank has cycled, it should...

    Raising Salinity

Instead, you could just raise the salinity slowly through your water changes. For instance, when you do your 10-15% water changes, premix your water and have the salinty be near 1.023. That way you could raise it without any drastic changes. The 10-15% would not sway the salinty right away...

How long should I wait to get an urchin??

I have a 90 gal that has been up and running for about 2 months. I was thinking in about a month or two. Is this too soon? I know they require good water quality. My nitrates are around 4-5. Everything else is as it should be. TIA

    Smallest clown

Lando, my perc clowns are hosting in my hammer as well! It's the funniest thing. I'm a little worried though. When the lights go out and the hammer pulls its body inside the exo-skeleton the rough edges of the hammer are exposed and the clowns don't seen to care. They rub up against it as if...

    RO/DI a good investment???

Funny, I'm in a very similar situation. I'm in college, renting an apartment, and I did buy the exact same filter. Money was tight for me as well, so I didn't get the extra tank. I don't really think you need it. The GPD rating on that filter is pretty high compared to other ones, so waiting...

    29gal with 110watt PCF Lighting.

I have seen those on ebay and wondered about the quality of the fixture because of the great price. I went with the coralife lunar light fixture. Other members on this forum have bought them and they say that they are actually good lights. It's really up to you. I'm a bargain hunter myself...

    painting tank stand

Yeah I would recommend a nice wood stain, and then a sealant that is water resistant. I stained my tank myself and loved the way it looked. But after only a few weeks, I kept dripping water on the front ledge and now I have a few water stains that seem like they'll only get worse. To be safe...

WOW!!! Great documentation and what an amazing sump. Nice work. I can't wait to graduate college and get a "real" job so I can afford projects like that. Very nice!!! :smilecolros:

    Average Evaporation

I do about 1-2 gal a day for my 90. When you get your MH's you should consider an auto-topoff system with a float switch. Another member just documented the steps with great pics and instructions. I can't remember his name, but if you do a search I'm sure you'll come across it.

My LFS is completely empty! The tsunami has cut them off.

Yeah, I talked to the owner of my lfs and he said that they are expecting some major set-backs. He said that he gets about 60% of his fish from the area. I was bummed, but he put me in my place and reminded me that thousands have lost their lives and loved ones and waiting a few months for...

Impulse buy, what should I do?

Well, my tank has been cycled for over a month now. I added the clean-up crew about 3-4 weeks back, added 2 perc clowns 2-3 weeks ago, and a green star polyp rock about 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I finally picked up the hammer coral I had on hold for a week. When I was at the lfs, I saw this...

    About to Faint

If you think about it, we all are getting our money's worth. My tank has given me hours and hours of enjoyment and I would do it all over again if I had to. That being said, I'm now a broke college student because of it. Mom and Dad send $$$$ quick, LOL!

    SCWD

yes, if the return pump loses power it will start a siphon. I found this out the hard way and had a mini pool in my room. Would be kinda cool if they manufacture it a different way so this doesn't happen. I know a tiny hole in the return spout will solve this, but it would save some trouble.

Great news!! Thanks for the reply. I'll wait another week (I hope  ). I'll post some pics when I get it.

Thinking about getting an open brain coral..advice??

My tank has finished cycling 2-3 weeks ago and I already added my clean-up crew. I will start with polyps and some mushrooms for corals. I was thinking about getting an open brain further down the road. I have about 5w/gal from a coralife PC light. 1. Do I have the proper lighting? If...

Torn between where to buy LiveRock

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't give OceanProAquatics a shot. I have purchased rocks from both OceanPro and Liverocks.com. I'm glad I went with both. Granted the rocks from lr.com is by far the nicest I've seen, the gulf rock from OceanPro is a deal that I couldn't pass over. I live in...

    HOB fuge question....

I hear a lot of people who have fuges under their tanks keep the lighting on 24/7 and some who keep them on alternate to the day/actinic lights. Which do you recommend and why? Also, I was thinking about getting a hob fuge. Anyone know a good site and good brand? Is a hob fuge good enough...

Pick out a lighting setup for me!

The coralife light is awesome. I know it is not as intense as MH, so you will be limited a little. I have the lunar light model and I love the moonlights. It is really quiet and well-built. They probably could have done a better job on the legs. I broke 2 of them just trying to install...
