Where did you buy your ro/di units at?

I purchased mine on Ebay from FilterDirect and I am happy with it. They were also very helpful with my questions on how to hook it straight into the plumbing under my sink. (I am very hardware/plumbing illiterate) There was a thread or article around here that mentioned FilterDirect and two...

    disappearing macroalgae in sump

I am pretty sure that your urchin is eating a lot of your macro as well. I know my roommate had one that loved the macro in his tank. Depending on your light situation you should be able to grow the coraline faster than the urchin can eat it. Other then that you could always try to swap the...

Advice on what to do first.

I was going to include all that info in the post, but it looked really long and I did not want to scare people away from reading it! I have the bak-pak 2r skimmer, the large on with 2 chamber and collection cups. I also have these lights...

Advice on what to do first.

Alright, I have a 125 gallon reef without about 150lbs of live rock. The tank has been up and running for about 18 months with out any major fiasco's. All fish and corals seem to be very healthy and happy. (and my water tests back this up) I know someone will ask so I have 2 percs, a...

    Mantis or pistol???

I had a mantis and some pistol shrimp in my 125. I heard the popping noise as well. Once I caught the mantis and moved it to its own tank I still here the popping in the main tank, but none from the mantis tank. So in short the popping my very well be a pistol. As to you missing crabs, it...

    aquacon.com

Do a search and look at other people's reviews of them. I too was thinking about ordering from them and the general consensus I got from this site and others was that you should never buy something from a site with the word "con" in it. But who knows, they may have improved.

new to saltwater looking for advice

First off to get it out of the way I will say that I think you a overstocked for that tank. Being as you had FW tanks before this you are probably aware of it, just wanted to say it in case. As for the orange coating, it could be a type of cyno algae which is not wanted, or just diatoms, which...

How do I know if I have mantis shrimp?

The mantis will come out mighty fast in a FW or carbon water dip, basically shoots out of the rock trying to escape the FW. Just have another bucket of SW nearby if you want to keep it, and dump the rock back into the tank after the Mantis is out. Most of your organisms will be fine.

    Sleeper Gold Head Goby

I have the same fish and he does drop sand on the corals and what not. However, with decent water movement most if not all the sand is "washed away" by itself, however you may have to take a Turkey baster and "blow" it off.

I think I may have screwed up my QT

First off, just calm down. :) Now, to your first question about cycling. Water does not cycle, the substrate, filters pads, sponge filters, etc.. cycle. The bacteria is in the water, but most of it lives on the rocks and substrate. This is why when moving a tank most people say don't worry...

Is this a good RO unit?

I second the advice given by Phyl, go with the 6 stage from Filterdirect, that is what I did and I ahve had no problems with it whatsoever. In fact, 2 of my friends now get water from me instead of the LFS. What is the going rate on RO/DI water nowadays anyways.......

Hmm, well when my friends deflates it looks more greenish/purple, which isn't much help to you is it. :D Well, hmm I guess wait for a more informed person to respond.

    Sleeper Gold Head Goby

My gold-headed sleeper is actually the first one out and the last one in at night usually. At first mine would only sift from the sandbed, and yes this really helped with turning over the sand and keeping it "pristine". At first mine would not eat the shrimp I feed the other inhabitants, but...

    orange bta?

My friend has had a Rose BTA for almost a year now and it looks pretty much identical to yours. It is like with all livestock, some are brighter or more brilliantly colored them some of their brethren. Another thing could be your lighting or water parameters. The same Anemone could appear...

    Accumilate Corals?

I would agree with revhtree and slowly acclimate them. The only time I do not acclimate my corals to lighting ( I ALWAYS acclimate them to water params) is when I purchase them from a LFS in my area and the tank is pretty much identical to mine in lighting output. If you do not acclimate them...

    Snails eating zoanthids?

They are about halfway up the tank in the full light. The remaining ones are open wide and seem to be doing great. Perhaps I did cook them at first so only the strong survived, I am not sure. But I will keep an eye out on them and see what happens.

Do I need a protein skimmer?

Most tanks that I have seen feature multiple rocks to create the "reef". It is easier to aquascape how you want it and also allows for more hiding places. Another thing about adding "dead" rock is that it will eventually become "live". All it means by "Live Rock" is that the bacteria inside...

    Snails eating zoanthids?

Well thanks for the input. I have turbo, astrea(sp?), margarita, trochus, and cerith, fighting conchs. Just general cleanup crew that you can purchase online. I will keep an eye out at night and get a glass to see if I can find the culprit.

    Snails eating zoanthids?

Hello all, back with yet another question! I have a very small colony of Zoanthids and it seems like my snails are eating them! After the snail passes over the Zoa's are of course closed up, but there seem to be less and less each day. Water params are fine: Ammonia=0, Nitrites= 0, Nitrates=...

    Isopods and GreeneX

Alrighty, as many of you may have read in the Sick Fish Forum, I have found isopods on my fish. After reading a lot up on Interceptor 90% or more post with no pod deaths, well at least that they could tell. In fact most crabs, shrimps, etc.. survived the Interceptor treatment. After visiting...

    Cirolnoid (sp?) Isopods

Well after going night diving last night all I found was a shiny black, oval on the LR, which I got a pic of, couldn't suck it out with a Baster, although it also didn't run when poked and smashed, sitll haging on by a thread on the LR. Also found a "bag" of something connected to the sand...
