Ich treatment (heat and salt) with my tank occupants

Well, as of Wednesday, last spot of ich is gone. Now just holding at 88deg for 1-2 weeks. No deaths. One of the lemons was doing the death acrobatics and then just suddently was fine.

    proper planting of anubias

What is the proper way of planting anubias? I've read that A. nana like to have the rhizome above the substrate, but what about the other species/variants? A rhizome is technically an underground root, so wouldn't most benefit form being planted in the substrate? All discussion and personal...

    attaching plants to driftwood

the one I tied down has a large root system that cover the whole driftwood almost (combo of large roots and small driftwood). As a coincidence, it seems this plant was designed for the piece of driftwood. All of the major root coincide with a grove on the driftwood. Kind of freaky.

    attaching plants to driftwood

I just got some anubias and want to attach a coffeefolia to a piece of driftwood. I've read around a little and saw to use fishingline or cottong thread to hold it to the wood. I went with cotton since it seems softer and natural and I have head it will dissolve on its own if I don't do anything...

Ich treatment (heat and salt) with my tank occupants

yeah, but if you read my original post, have no-salt fish (tetras and otos), otherwise I'd be putting salt in. I've got a container sitting below my tank just teasing me.

Bio-Spira - Tell me your experiences!

mine isn't a horror story. My tanks were lightly loaded and all fish survived the normal cycling. The product just didn't instant cycle me. And yes, I did use it a situation as a "rescue" because I thought some of the cheap "fake" stuff would work and then my levels went all crazy on me.

Ich treatment (heat and salt) with my tank occupants

yeah, I've always read that salt is bad with tetras. Well, 88deg (or so and holding). It's not super steady, but I'm going my best to keep it there. Everyone seems ot be doing fine. There was a little more ich visible as the temp started to go up (as expected). Almost all of the "active"...

Bio-Spira - Tell me your experiences!

It didn't seem to work for me. I split a 1 oz packet which should work for 30 gallons between a 10 gallon and 12 gallon. Now, the levels of ammonia were already quite high when I added it (as there was some nitrite and slight nitrates already). I must have gotten a partial early cycle or...

Ich treatment (heat and salt) with my tank occupants

It seems like the onset. No more I haven't seen any more than one salt grain on any fish and most don't have any.

Ich treatment (heat and salt) with my tank occupants

3 Otocinclus 3 Cardinal Tetras 5 Lemon Tetras Ghost shrimp Some plants (anacharis, hornwort, water sprite) See a few little dots of ich, so I want to get it taken care of before I restock my tank (didn't find a dead fish for a few days and a lot of other fishes paid the price). I'm going to...

done and ordered, so maybe catch me the next time.

    FW shellfish

my LFS also has freshwater clams. Not the most exciting as they just sit there, but it's kind of neat to see them with their filters open sucking up filth. I have some ghost shrimp, and they love to sit near the clams and grab stuff out of the water flow (no filter on the tank, so the only...

anyone interested in going in on a plant order in the N/NW burbs on Chicago next week? Just checking for interest. I'm not 100% yet.

I guess it's also important to add that just want brown algae, and not the others.

    hornwort and algae

I've been reading that hornwort will release some compounds that limit algae growth. Anyone know any more details? I've got 3 otos in my 12 gallon and one stem of hornwort and wanted to add more, but the otos need the algae to eat, so I don't want to stop it all. Should I remove even the one...

    Fish for Eclipse System Twelve

It's pretty easy to enhance the filter on the eclipse 12. Look for a thread by me in the DIY forum. It seems to be able to keep up with a rather large population (I'm probably pushing it). Water parameters are still all good.

    Emperor Tetras

yeah, I don't "technically" have room for an entire separate school, but I was looking for something that would school with the cardinals. I was surprised to see the cardinals and emperors forming together.

King/Royal/Kerri Tetras (all the same species)

Has anyone ever seen these in a store or on-line shop anywhere? Seems like a better version of an emperor tetra (and I like blue better than purple anyway ;) ). Smaller and not so mean. http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/SpeciesSummary.cfm?genusname=Inpaichthys&speciesname=kerri

    Emperor Tetras

It's a 12g, with plenty of plants. And if I have the light off or aren't sitting to close, he doesn't do the little dance. I'm sure it's a "look how big I am aren't you scared of me dance". He's been doing it less. Now he just chases everything else around the tank when I through food in...

    Shrimp?

and by looking at your tank, seems like you have algae eaters already. I'd be surprised if the 4 otos and hte pleco can't keep it clean for algea. The cories might outcompete the shrimp for food at the bottom if they are anything like the cories I have.

    Shrimp?

no...they arne't that much. But they are like 0.5" big, so you are going to want more than 1. The cheapest I've seen them is $4.59 each (www.azgardens.com). My LFS had them for $7.50 each. So you want 10 shrimp, you're at $50ish dollars, not counting shipping and stuff. There are cheaper...

    Shrimp?

well, if you are torn with shrimp, grab 10 or so ghost shrimp. Won't set you back but a few dollars and you can see if you like them. And as for having disease, I read on some shrimp site that they don't really carry fish diseases. It's a cheap way to see if you like them (or if they will...

    Emperor Tetras

I just added some emperor tetras to my tank (1 male, 2 females) with 7 cardinals. THe cardinals would be all the tank before. The emperors like to hide in the back by the heater. But now, the cardinals have made friends with the smallest emperor (just slightly bigger than them) and now all...
