    Euthanizing snails?

Thanks, librarygirl. I don't want to do it either, and I'm thinking of waiting a bit to see if the snail population continues to go up. But it's good to know I have some more human options.

    Euthanizing snails?

Sounds like it's worth a try. I just have to remember to explain it to my husband ahead of time, lest he get quite the surprise the next time he opens the freezer!

    Euthanizing snails?

I guess it depends on how hard the shells are. A lot of stomping might make the people in the apartment downstairs wonder what we were up to, but, as Mr. Bennet says in Pride and Prejudice, "For what do we live, but to make sport for our neighbors, and laugh at them in our turn?" :)

    Euthanizing snails?

I'm not completely overrun but I do have a lot of them. Thanks for mentioning the food -- I might be overfeeding the loaches. I'm new to having an aquarium and I'm still getting a feel for the right amount of food. I think I've got it figured out for my white clouds, but I'm finding it harder...

    Euthanizing snails?

I have a snail infestation and wondered if there is some way to kill snails that isn't cruel. I have three dojo loaches and had hoped that they would just eat the things and keep the snail population down in a more natural fashion, but my dojos are just juveniles and seem to ignore the snails...

    Coldwater tank capacity

I've seen it suggested that a coldwater tank can accommodate fewer fish per gallon than a tropical tank, and I'm trying to figure this out. I thought oxygen was the major consideration, but cold water holds more oxygen than warmer water, and fish use oxygen at a slower rate in cold water due to...

Gold and Regular White Cloud Mountain Minnows

That's a good way to describe it. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's seen this kind of behavior. It's kind of fun to watch, actually. It must be even more striking with your 6 and 6.

    Hello from Pittsburgh

Hello from southwestern Pennsylvania! I'm new to freshwater tanks, but worked with winter flounder embryos and fry (yolk-sac larvae) as a grad student in molecular biology and got hooked on fish in the process! A recent encounter with dojo loaches in a LPS was enough to push me over the edge...

Gold and Regular White Cloud Mountain Minnows

I have a mix of regular (3) and golden (4) white clouds in a newly cycled tank (29 gallon). They generally school together well, though occasionally the regular ones seem to huddle together a bit. Do yours behave like that, too, or do they mingle more freely? I also have two young golden dojo...
