If it's on your rock it's going to consume it like crazy... I have the same issue in my DT after constantly trimming it back and maintaining it I finally gave up... Tearing down my tank... Drying the LR out and starting over again... Most likely your parameters are sky high in phosphates... But...

You may want to leave the tank barren for two months to kill the life cycle of any type of parasite. If some type of cleaning chemical entered the tank it would most likely kill off all your tank inhabitants and or crash your tank. I'm leaning on it is more likely you had some parasites lurking...

Easy to make!!! YouTube is a great resource to have... Check your local hardware store for glass or acrylic sheets. I've seen them in different sizes.
