I got out of the ha bit of regularly testing the water, I do do the weekly water changes though. From what I read, it is high though. I did a partial water change before work, I will test again when I get home and another water change if needed.

Day 3. Ammonia .25 nitrite at least 5.0 and nitrate still 40. Nitrate doesn't seem to be increasing. Also I added about 3 gallons of water from my already established tank last night.

so, ammonia is turned into nitrites which should turn into nitrates? Which should leave nearly zero ammonia and nitrites at all times?

Interesting, thanks everyone for your input. I don't know about investing in a co2 tank right now, but maybe a stronger light fixture. So looks like I don't have anymore options for covering the bottom in green. It doesn't have to been instant, but I didn't want to wait years either though.

So, I got my test kit today. I just tested for ammonia and i'm at about 1ppm. I used the calculator on Friday to figure out how much ammonia to add to get 4ppm, but wasn't able to test it then. So how do I go about bringing it back up to 4ppm? Can I just add 3/4 of what I did from the beginning...

I dont shop petco and I only step foot into petsmart for veggie rounds for my pacu. If I could find it elsewhere then I would buy from them. I had to go to aqua touch for a bulk head, because discount aquarium was closed.
