    New Betta Won't Eat

Just got a brand-new, male Betta in my 5.5 gal, cycled tank. He's been exploring and hiding, which seems normal. When and how should I feed him? My previous Betta was accustomed to hand-feeding, so he was easy. This one, not so much; he doesn't even seem interested in the food. Can they...

Betta fin rot. So frustrated, please help.

Captain Jack has had what I'm assuming is fin rot for about two months now. I've done a 100% wc and cleaned all the tank deco in hot water (cave, plants, rocks - not gravel or filter media, they just got swished in old tank water and returned). I started daily 50% pwcs without using aquarium...

Possible Betta Fin Rot? Please help.

This morning I noticed what seemed to be a small hole about half way in Captain Jack's tail fin. Today when I got home from work, the tail has split from the hole to the end of his tail. It hasn't moved towards his body at all, and none of his other fins seem to be affected. His colour is still...

Finally fully cycled - and now the questions.

After more than a month, I finally got a fully cycled tank! Yay! Did a 95% water change, tested once more, then went out and got Captain Jack (the 2nd). He's been in the tank for almost two weeks now, and doing great! In fact, he seems a lot healthier and more active than when I got him, and his...

    Starting from scratch

Cleaned out my tank, re-filled and started my cycle from scratch. I think I have everything I need now - bubble stone, heater, API test kit, ammonia, seeding material (poly fill from a filter in an established tank) from my lfs. Boy, Petsmart was NOT helpful in starting up the first time...

    Ammonia issues

I'm trying to start fresh with my 5.5 gallon tank, since my fish succumbed to ick. But I can't find anywhere to buy pure ammonia anymore, and fish food is not upping the ammonia levels like I hoped it would (I've been trying ground-up fish flakes for three days now, and ammonia has only gone up...

    Nooooooo! ICH!

Crap! I worked so hard to keep Captain Jack healthy, and now he has ich. I know I'm not supposed to do too many things at once to try and fix it, so what should I do first? 20% water change and clean the gravel? Should I go get some aquarium salt first? How long does Captain Jack have?

Betta sleeping at bottom of tank?

My Betta, Captain Jack, seems to sleep at the bottom of his tank, often in a corner or wrapped around one of my aquarium plants. Is this normal, or could he be sick? When I turn the light on he starts swimming around again, so he's not getting caught or stuck as far as I can tell... It's my...

    Feeding advice - Betta

I have a male Betta in a 5.5 gal tank with baffled filter. I was feeding him bloodworms, 1 to 2 worms twice a day. But I've been reading some other posts that recommend using pellets or flakes, and bloodworms only once a week! Can anyone help me with some advice on feeding? Each new article I...

    New to forum

Hello to all! I am a new tank owner, and I'm really excited about this new hobby. I have a 5.5 gal tank, currently occupied by one male Betta. I'm thinking about adding an African Dwarf Frog next week, and possibly a small catfish in a few weeks. Any suggestions would be both helpful and welcome.
