Here's the tank today. Unfortunately, the fromia proved too good a feeder, ate everything he could, then died. But everything else is going great, and the clam has almost an inch of new shell.

I've been thinking about building up a DIY flow meter for my return pump, to see what it's actually putting out, and be able to tune my system a little better. However, I don't have an Apex, and I'm not about to plunk down the $$$ on one, plus the extra for the new flow meter kit they have...

I've put on my engineer hat and was able to get consecutive tests to within 6ppm...good enough for me.

The fromia is doing awesome in the tank, and I was able to take all the frogspawn frags (except one) to my LFS for store credit...and picked up a nice 3 inch tiger striped derasa clam :)

Which do you guys use/prefer? I'm seeing some pretty wild variations test to test with my Hanna Checker (on the order of 75ppm difference between consecutive tests). Are the RedSea tests better/more accurate/more consistent?

I use the BRS RoX carbon, in their mini reactor (with phosguard), changing every 14 days. It does a great job keeping the water clear.

It looks like FedEx doesn't allow live animal shipping (for non-commercial shippers, at least), and UPS doesn't appear to explicitly allow corals, only fish. My concern here is that if a claim needs to be made, since coral isn't on the UPS "ok to ship" list, the claim will be denied. From...

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with shipping corals (specifically thick branching frogspawn). What needs to be done w.r.t. packaging, heating/cooling, amounts of water, etc? Thanks in advance.
