    Rock flower anemones

makes it sound like a couple days should be OK. Keep an eye on it, feed it, and if it doesn't look distressed, don't worry...

    dmolavi's 40 breeder update

Thanks :) I use RedSea Coral Pro. My LFS has it on sale a few times a year so I stock up.

    dmolavi's 40 breeder update

Here's the tank today. Unfortunately, the fromia proved too good a feeder, ate everything he could, then died. But everything else is going great, and the clam has almost an inch of new shell.

    Flow meters

I've been thinking about building up a DIY flow meter for my return pump, to see what it's actually putting out, and be able to tune my system a little better. However, I don't have an Apex, and I'm not about to plunk down the $$$ on one, plus the extra for the new flow meter kit they have...

Calcium Tests: RedSea vs Hanna Checker

I've put on my engineer hat and was able to get consecutive tests to within 6ppm...good enough for me.

    dmolavi's 40 breeder update

Here's a full tank shot from today. About 20 heads of frogspawn went to the LFS in exchange for store credit..

    dmolavi's 40 breeder update

The fromia is doing awesome in the tank, and I was able to take all the frogspawn frags (except one) to my LFS for store credit...and picked up a nice 3 inch tiger striped derasa clam :)

Calcium Tests: RedSea vs Hanna Checker

Which do you guys use/prefer? I'm seeing some pretty wild variations test to test with my Hanna Checker (on the order of 75ppm difference between consecutive tests). Are the RedSea tests better/more accurate/more consistent?

Need for a UV Sterilizer? discussion

I use the BRS RoX carbon, in their mini reactor (with phosguard), changing every 14 days. It does a great job keeping the water clear.

    Rock Flower Tips

I got mine about a year ago from PacEast, it was about 2 inches across. I feed him every other day and it's up to about 5 inches across now, and is gorgeous. They do wander, and mine found it's way into my overflow box (not in any danger, thankfully)....so if you need to move yours, use a...

    dmolavi's 40 breeder update

Haha...Thanks :) Behind the star is a plating monti. It is a little rough now because of where it was before (choked out by the kenya tree, pre-pruning), but is making a good recovery. EDIT: Behind the first pic...a duncan colony.

    Shipping corals - tips/advice needed

It looks like FedEx doesn't allow live animal shipping (for non-commercial shippers, at least), and UPS doesn't appear to explicitly allow corals, only fish. My concern here is that if a claim needs to be made, since coral isn't on the UPS "ok to ship" list, the claim will be denied. From...

    Shipping corals - tips/advice needed

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with shipping corals (specifically thick branching frogspawn). What needs to be done w.r.t. packaging, heating/cooling, amounts of water, etc? Thanks in advance.

    dmolavi's 40 breeder update

Thanks :) It's definitely come a long way since November 2015 when I moved from the 20 to the 40. I still do weekly PWCs, test as needed, and clean as much as I can. About 1hr maintenance/week on top of feeding, etc. My LFS is willing to take some of the frogspawn for credit. They have more...
