    My First Reef Tank

I have begun adding seachem's stability to my tank after I added the live rock. The stability will help my tank cycle faster. After I bought it from my lfs I came home and done research on it and from all of the people on different forums that have used it they say it really works and no one has...

    My First Reef Tank

I done another test tonight and here are the results -temp 78.6 -ammonia .25ppm -nitrite 5.0ppm -nitrate 80ppm -sg 1.025 I am really worried about my nitrates. Should they be this high or should I be concerned about them at this point.

@Mrc8858 that's a really good deal. I wish I could find deals around Atlanta for that price usually when full setups are that cheap here they are more trouble then they are worth.

No you will have to go to a fish store that specialize in saltwater tanks and fish or you can order the stuff online and hope you can get free shipping. Alot of stores online offer free shipping if you buy a large amount.

Starting a 30g ! How to set up tge RIGHT way!!

Hi Aquaboi I'm building a 29 gallon myself. This was my first reef but this is what I done. First I added my saltwater and let it come up to temp (around 77 to 78 degrees), then I added my rock which is a mix between dry base and live rock. Then I added my live sand. When I added my sand I...

    My First Reef Tank

@joeball2007 I was like you the only thing I had was the tank and the whisper 20 filter. I got my stuff from a local fish store and it cost me just alittle over 500.00. I did however get a good deal on my light and 200 gallons of salt. The light was 120.00 and the box of salt was 49.00. I could...

    My First Reef Tank

I bought a pound of live rock rubble that had decent coralline on so it will seed my base rock and to my surprise when I pulled the rock out of the bag I found three tiny hermit crabs on some of the rock. I hope they survive the cycle but I'm not sure they will because they sure are tiny.

    My First Reef Tank

OK thanks for the input. I also have a new question. What will the diatom bloom look like? I know cyano algae looks like I had it once in my saltwater fish only tank but I have never seen a diatom bloom.

    My First Reef Tank

I done another test tonight and the results are as follows -temp 77.9 -ammonia .50ppm -nitrite off the scale(scale goes to 5.0) -nitrate 40ppm -sg 1.025 Is it normal for the nitrite to be so high during the cycle. Also how often should I test during the cycle.

    My First Reef Tank

I have a question. My temp which is around 77.5 at night and 78.9 during the day. Will this kind of swing hurt my live stock when I start adding it.

I have a purchase question. A lfs has live cured rock for 4.00 a pound and dry rock for 2.00 and 3.00 a pound. I was wondering if this is a good price or should I be worried about it? I have not looked at the rock but I will be going to purchase some this weekend. Also can the rock be cured in...

Do you have a shrimp to go with your goby? What kind of fish is the blue one that you have? Do you run a big cuc because I didn't see any snails or anything like that in your tank? How much rock do you have in your tank and is it all live rock? Sorry for all of the questions I'm just wanting to...

Finally Gonna go Saltwater - 29 Gallon build

Spoonman your tank is AMAZING. You have given me something to shoot for when I sit up my 29. Your tank is not over crowded like some of the ones I've seen. I love your aquascape and also how your sand is higher on one side. I have a question. Do you think 2 maxi-jet 400 will work well in a 29...

new to reefing but not saltwater

I'm going to try to stick with softies and lps for the time being. I really don't want to get into the stony corals until I have the tank running for about a year. As far as equipment goes the only thing I have is the tank. I plan on getting a 4 x 24w t5 light from ebay, 2 maxi jet 400 power...
