Thanks Brookster! We were pretty lucky, no real damage and didn't lose power when 80% of the residents in our county lost power. Sadly those in the keys and some parts of sw FL cannot say the same. This storm was so big that we registered 90 mph gusts while the eye was over 150 miles away...

Hey everyone- the tank is doing great and I hope I can say that in 3 days as we are in the cone for a potential direct hit from Hurricane Irma. Getting pretty crazy down here, I am a native Floridian and there are a lot of folks I know who have been through some pretty serious storms who have...

PO4- now down to .012 so algae growth should slow. I am still not quite dialed in with the dosing. Tests yesterday showed alk at 10.5 dkh and cal at 540. I would like alk at 11-12 and calcium around 420-440 so I unplugged the cal doser but left alk on. I need to get another digital timer...

Well they responded to my initial email right away and offered to send a new one or give a credit to my account. I opted for the credit but have not yet used it so we will see what the outcome is.

Well Ive heard the bird wrasse is doing great in her new home. Now that the wrasse is gone I picked up some blue and red hermit crabs, a couple emerald crabs, and nassarius snails today. I also grabbed a mandarin, 3 firefish, and a zoa and mushroom frag. https://i.imgur.com/qxCOhRY.jpg...

Going saltwater for first time need help/build thread.

You can grown anything you want under AIs. As for the aqua clear I would ditch it and spend the money towards the skimmer or powerheads.

Going saltwater for first time need help/build thread.

Well I think either would be fine but perhaps do a little more research to be sure. I think its just different grain size, correct? It depends on what you want- sand sifters or sleepers (wrasses and gobies)? If so than you want to avoid the larger grain sizes.

40 b is a great size to start out. Everything looks great - maybe a heater for equipment not listed. Have you considered a sump? The cycle will generally take 6- 8 weeks. For sand I love the carib sea arag alive or ocean direct for you- 40 lbs. good luck!

I decided the bird wrasse had to go. It was tough because he (or she) is a really cool fish with a great personality. Ultimately, though, I want to be able to have hermit crabs and small shrimp in the tank. The straw that broke the camels back was the other day I added sone margarita snails...

Thanks! Yes its a 2000int and living up to its reputation. The one downside is it is rather loud- not water splashing but the air intake.

Hooked up the gfo reactor today. Like everything from BRS, setup and installation was a breeze. https://i.imgur.com/aSP2yKh.jpg The sump is pretty crowded now. https://i.imgur.com/wW8NlwJ.jpg

    Dary's tank!

Hey congrats on the totm, it is much deserved. Ive had issues with keeping mag up since going to the larger tank. The recommendation from brs is to add the mag in one dose once the alk and cal has been used up. (Then you fill the alk and cal jugs back up and repeat.) I found this odd...

Yes a purple stylo as well. Im very pleased with the corals and the customer service so I opted for the credit. They have free shipping on orders over $75 so I plan on getting another few more frags.

Received the salty underground order today and all but one frag look great! I contacted them about the one doa and they responded quickly with the option to get a credit or send another frag of same coral. Here are the frags: A couple acros, a pink monti digi, birdsnest, and a blasto- the...

    New to marine

Welcome! Do you have rock? You will want to get all of your rocks in there and throw in a shrimp or some fish food or something- then let it sit in there to decay- Or you can add straight ammonia- Or you could get one of those cycle starters like Dr tims. Either way you have to introduce a...

    Tangs mysterious death!

IME, clowns are much more aggressive than chromis, the only fish ive seen chromis pick on is other chromis- def not a larger and typically more aggressive fish- but I guess weirder things have happened. I suppose it could be you have a tainted batch of nori but that also seems pretty far fetched.
