    Making a river tank...

If you can, take a day trip to the London's aquarium. They have a few set-ups with "river tanks". I was quite fascinated when I saw those in 2005. Not to mention that it is a great aquarium to visit. :)

    Anyone been to London?

The Eurostar is a great way to do the London <-> Paris commute. Easy, comfortable, luxurious and stress free! :) You should give it a try one of these day when you're tired of the rain. Cheers! :D

    energy efficent Halides

Halides and "energy efficient" in the same sentence is a bit of an oxymoron, really. They consume much more energy than the amount of light they give out. As an example, they will consume 275 watts of electricity to give out 250 watts of light. A lot of energy is lost in heat production. Check...

    Anyone been to London?

Same here, there is light........... Then nothingness...... Oh! Light again! :D Nice comfortable ride nonetheless. The on-board "snack bar" is just that, a snack provider. I cannot remember if they had a "restaurant" in there tho... I must be getting old.... :D

    Anyone been to London?

I was there in 2005. As others have said, worthy sights include: Tower of London, the Ferris wheel LondonEye, London Aquarium, Picadilly Circle, Buckingham' Palace area, Museum of London, the parc behind Downing street, Kensington Gardens, Westminster Abbey, accross the street from "Big Ben"...

Great Barrier Reef Fish "Starving To Death"

FISH species on the Great Barrier Reef are starving to death because climate change is killing off their food source, an environmental study has found. More details here: http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/story/0%2C20867%2C20978108-29277%2C00.html Sad, sad, sad reality of today's...

Automatic Feeder? 3 weeks and pellets! Also a lighting Q...

Earlier this year, I was overseas for 3 weeks and this is what I had setup on my tank: Eheim 3581 "Feed-Air" Digital Automatic Feeder. Well worth the investment in my opinion. Here is a link for it: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod_Display.cfm?pcatid=4460&N=2004+112973 HTH

    Thinking urchin

I have had one black and one brown urchin since July and they seem to be doing well. I don't see them too often then tho, as they are behind the rocks most of the time. Funny thing when I first place them on the bottom of the tank, they were following each other for a while and then went their...

    Buying Acrylic for Sump

Umm.... Looks like it will be quite the sump there! :) From the given dimensions, I think that you will require thicker acrylic than 1/4". I would suggest that you visit the link below for a lot of information on sump construction. That guy is a genious when it comes to sumps and most...

    Help - Bulkhead leaking

Did you visually inspected it, real close, to see if there is an airline crack on it? Is the rubber seal on the inside of the tank? Could it be there is some left over sand under the seal? If the BH is cracked, you will have to bite the bullet and purchase another one. :( HTH

    Buying Acrylic for Sump

Before knowing if that thickness is appropriate, how about you tell us the dimensions of the sump you whish to build? ;) That could be swell for a mini sump, but if you are going to build a king size one, you might need 1/2" thickness. So, tell us more about your dream sump! :)

    Positive Feedback - SerLunchbox

A quick note to thank SerLunchbox for the quick shipment of the pump, which was received in its original box, along with all the attachments. Hooked up the pump for a few minutes and it ran well. Now, I just need the time to install it the way I want. :) Thanks again, SerLunchbox!! 8) 8)

    Can someone explain bioloads?

Basically, bioload is the ratio of fish you have in your tank to the total water volume of your tank. I have seen various guidelines, but the one I stick to is 1 inch of fish lenght, minus the tail, for each 2 gallons of water in the tank. Some people are able to add more fishes in their...

    Vancouver recommendations?

Well, from my dealings with BA and J&L Aquatics, I can tell you this: BA charges way too much for what they sell. Just compare the prices, for identical items, between the US and CDA sites. The price markup is astronomical. Most BA's staff are week-end workers at minimum wages. Not that it...

OK to turn off pumps for 30 mins?

Why not use staggered start/stop schedule? That way, you could have some "random" water movement, which would prevent the "no movement" scenario you are presented with. ;) Cheers!

Partial Water Change - 10 Minutes Solution

Hey folks! I've had my tank for about 1.5 year now and I have always found that water changes were tedious, slow and wasting a lot of water using the python. Anyone else feels the same? Since I use a mag pump to mix my new water, I came up with the following idea and thought I would share it...

    Acrylic glue question

Actually, it is not glue, but it rathers fuses acrylic parts together. You could try some kind of very find grinding paper on a hand tool, like a drill or Dremel, or just let it be and just buffer it. Perhaps serious buffing would help to improve the appearance, but either way, it will be...
